Default Toyota ops

i heard today that toyota are recalling 4 million cars cause of the throttle pedal fault. I heard on the radio that one woman was pulling out to overtake a wagon and nothing happened. Ive also heard a family of 4 were killed in a lexus cause the throttle pedal jammed open and killed them all. Whats wrong with a throttle cable lol. Modern technology. Its ok when it works.

i dont understand why there having accidents. if it jams dip the cutch and turn it off, or in an auto, switch the engine off. my old clio always used jam but it was still drivable just very jurky.

not difficult is it?

i heard some dozy cow on the radio saying it happened to her and she had her foot on the brake 'burning all the rubber' and it wouldn't slow down. wtf? she should not be allowed to drive if she does not understand how a car works at all

I can't wait for all the people who are having accidents in their Toyota and Lexus cars and decide to tell the insurance that "the throttle stuck" or "nothing happened".

My place (body repairer) have been instructed by one insurance company to inform them of any customer reporting this or similar on any of the "affected" cars. Their insurance claim will automatically be put on hold and the claim most likely thrown out as it is due to an outside source (i.e. vehicle defect subject to a recall not yet carried out).

Gonna be some unhappy people around.

Already had one today in her brand new 2010 Prius trying to use it as an excuse as to why she drove down the side of a wall while pulling away. . Of course, it would be nothing to do with the fact that she has only just got it and does not yet understand the principles behind how the Prius works.

Lol, he is part right I guess, it will work but I wouldn't call it drivable.

You'd be safer with the pedal stuck down

You seriously saying that an accelerator stuck down at 80, and accelerating, is better than turning the engine off and braking? I know which one I'd prefere...

I read in the paper about the people killed in the Lexus. Not being funny but if the throttle is stuck down, how did they find the time to make a phone call about it with not one of them (on either end of the phone) deciding turning the ignition off would be a good idea (I assume its an auto).

I've had throttles stick plenty of times. Recently had it happen on my M3, the 1st time I took it out after replacing the engine. I booted it, in the top of 3rd gear and the throttle pedal jammed down. It was a bit of a shock, dipped the clutch, it was bouncing its nuts off the limiter, turned the ignition off, all done within about 5 seconds. Then, as it was coasting, pulled up the throttle pedal with my hand and started it up again.

If people are dying because of this, can't help thinking it's a bit of natural selection going on.

It's not a hard thing to do is it? Just put it in neutral and brake...

So is there any chance that we'll hear Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" as the soundtrack of the next Toyota ad?

They don't think like that about all engines fitted to Fords. They copied the BDA engine to make their 1.4 4AGE. Can't fault them with that, cracking engine and made complete sense to rip off the original.

Be a good time to get your hands on a second hand Toyota, prices will be dirt cheap if idiots keep having accidents because of a jammed throttle.

My ex mrs old Golf used to do it, was a right laugh, knock it out of gear, brake to a stop and lift the pedal back up with your foot or whatever.

Anyone getting killed coz of this is either driving way too fast to begin with or too close to cars in front and not having enough time to think logically about how to get the thing to stop.

Sad thing is, most people have no idea how a car actually works, and so when it goes wrong, they have no idea what to do.

The car in front is a Toyota............with it's throttle stuck open hurtling towards a tree.

People need to listen to the call and not just believe what they've heard/read:

http://www.entertonement.com/clips/f...hris-Lastrella

The operator asks if they can turn it off and at one point the drivers says he has no brakes. All over in seconds when you hear them say they are approaching an intersection.

Most of us know what to do in the event of this happening but everyone is assuming that all your get out plans will work. I've had brake failure before but i was only doing 25-30 and had plenty of time and room to slow down safely. Now double that speed and see if you can halve your reaction time.

I'd love to see some of you do 120mph with your family in the car and be all cool about the situation and "just turn it off". I think a few of you need to think about what you are saying having not been in the exact situation yourself, i'm not so sure, faced with a busy junction approaching while travelling 120mph i'd be able to remain quite so calm. We all know most modern cars can acheive 120mph and many will be able to do 60-120 within a reasonably short space.
People are very quick to judge on whats a very tragic accident.

Heres an example of someone apparently trying all the suggestions from people above : http://www.news.com.au/national/driv...-1225810814610
As it says the brakes only slowed him by 20kmh.
This guy called the police and they closed whole sections of road and shut off junctions i presume the lexus driver was hoping the police would do something to help, unfortunately there wasn't the time.

PMSL, it get's better and better. Yeah, that must be a nightmare... Going down a typical twisty and narrow australian highway at about 62 mph...

I wouldn't call the coppers, though. I'd call my garage and book the car in for a service...

I stand by what I said originally. How come they had the time to make a phone call and be on the phone for nearly a minute?

Seems to me there was a massive common sense failure going on. The operator even said turn it off.
