I did this in October and chopped in a 1998 one-owner Escort for my £2k (probably really only £1k because I would probably have got the dealer £1k anyway!)

I can't see any way round the 12 month rule because they need the log book to show your name and the "Change of Keeper" date is checked, and that was included to stop people buying up old cars to chop in then turn the new car for a quick profit.

My missus chopped her VW polo in for a new 1.6tdi Golf.

She got hit in the polo got written off... kept the car and done a VIC check...

She got paid out £800 for the car...

So she put down £1000 deposit and got £4000 scrappage... Car would have cost £17580 with all her extras but got it for £12780...

Had to wait months for it but she's chuffed with it now it's finally here

P.S scheme ends on 1st March. P.S you won't get round the 12 month rule as the 1st thing the dealsership look at on the V5 is the 'Aquired' date...

you will not get the government 1K without 12 months ownership, but the dealer can still give you their portion of it if they want, so in the case of people offering 4K like smit mentioned, you would still get 3K anyway.
