Sick Lines and Working
Im a travelling salesman, covering Scotland and N.E. England. Broke my arm, thus cannot drive which obviously means i cannot work, not on the road anyway. Been signed off for 4weeks by the doc but it will be longer than that i rekon.
Anyhow, work phoned me the other day, wanting me to sit in a few meetings, i've no problem with this, however ive got a feeling im only being asked in, to prove i can get into work etc, then they will contest my next sick line, saying i made it in before so i can again etc?
Where do i stand, i dont want to get arsey and say im not coming in but i dont want them to expect me back on the basis ive made it into the office 2/3 days, then get arsey with me when im signed off again.

Was on track i guess. Happened on 2nd Jan so new quarter just starting.
Not so much worried about numbers, more concerned that if i go in for the few days they want me, will i effectively prove myself able to work? Becaus im not, really.

if you have been signed off by your doctor then thats just it.. if you decide to go into work and then get injured further your company is not insured for you to be there as your doc has said you shouldnt be working ....
your company should know this and realise that you have been signed off for a reason ...
i know its annoying but as you said signed off,,,, broken arm ,,,,can't drive ..

I'f you can't drive then I would atleast try and do some office work. Personally I think it would show the company that you are dedicated - even if it is only a few emails and a bit of admin...
Although as said above, if you are signed off by your doctor then its a no go.
You could always ask for some new leads and do some cold calling at home for a few hours? A few hours work could put you in the good books if they are suspicious, if they ain't then it would be a great argument for a payrise!

as said before you are not covered by their insurance and are not allowed tto go into work at all, also pretty sure they are not allowed to even ask you if you could help out etc! I got a bollocking once for going back to work early as i thought i was better and my note said i had a couple of extra days left!

explain to work that although you are willing to come in and "help out", with your arm in the condition it's in, you will not be able to drive and public transport is a negatory in your condition
also ask about the health and safety aspect of things
in my case, i broke my wrist 3 days after i joined the company so after 2 weeks off sick i came in and helped out, the thinking being that i wouldn't have a job to go back to if i took a few months off
it was a full 7 months later that i was able to drive again but it paid off, you never know, it may work out for you, but just remember that they'd need someone to come out and collect and drop you off from work again and if they were willing to cover the cost of taxi's etc then it's something you would consider, to show willing etc
