If thats what you get on compare the market, I should reckon you should get something for £500 - £600.

You say its only a Sierra, but its got a much higher chance of being nicked than a newer car.

Would you still think that if your car gets knicked & you get fuck all for it cause youv'e got no insurance. I bet you'd soon be moaning if somebody took your advice, i.e. had no insurance, and then crashed into your car.

My other halfs son did the same thing with his insurance, he added me & his mum on the policy and the price came down, neither of us ever drive the car but the insurance company don't need to know that. I would recommend any young drivers get a quote with both parents on the policy, it might save you a bit which is better in your pocket than the insurance companies.

well there is other things can also be done to bring down the insurance cost... fitting a good thatcham alarm. if you have a garage.. also restrict the ammount he will be using the car... weirdly one thing i was told years ago was that if you have a partner that also can bring down the price.. as they see you as more mature..and starting to settle down..ie as a family man... with responsibilities...and i was told that from an insurance company.. also not smoking or drinking also can go against you... these are all the things they use in the quotes! not many of them they will inform you about.. once he gets to 25 his insurance will come down...

get on either Admiral, Bell or Elephant and fill out the form, adding both parents (providing they drive and have had licences for a while) should almost halve the prices you've been getting

using compare the market, same car, i got the quote down to £680
i'm 23 aswell, but i have 6 points on my licence

if you must use a comparison site, use confused, find the cheapest 3 on there, then do direct quotes as they are often slightly more detailed on the insurer's sites, also they tend to get their big calculators out for the comparison site quotes.

4 names i recommend trying are Admiral, Elephant, Bell (parts of the same company- EUI) and Prudential

by adding your parent(s) you should be able to get it into the mid £500's at least

also its only worth doing 3rd party fire and theft on an '89 1.6 sierra as an empty petrol tank will write the bastard off in the insurance company's eyes anyway, even if its a minter and likely as not, your excess would be more than the payout

If you have been on a traders policy ie named ,that will more than half it, if you can prove you was a named on the policy.

I disagree! My existing insurance company that I had been with for years, last year wanted £1350 for renewal - I went on one of these websites you see on TV etc - and I get a £550 policy. That suited me.

shop around mate, classic insurance probably be you best bet, I'm through boncaster, but you need to be a member to the rs owners club. fully comp, agreed valuation, rs track day cover, all mods declared £170 for the year. that's on a saph cosi at 29 years old with 1 years no claim. but I dont earn any no claims either, so price probably wont go down.
