Default Heater Direction Problem

Hello,

I have an 02 Ford Escort Van and the heater direction has stopped working. The heater constantly blows through the vents and wont change to the windscreen. The only way to get a bit of a flow to the windscreen is by closing all other vents (but this is still noting like the power from the vents).

Temperature control works fine, blows both hot and cold as it should. Also power setting of 1-3 all work fine.

Ive had a look and the cable pulls the control near the passanger footwell.

Thanks in advance!!!

Andy

I was wondering how i'd get further into the flaps etc? Would I go behind the stereo?

Thanks

If the cable is ok, maybe the outer is slipping in the little metal clamp when operated, is there any resistance on the pivot piece flap part the cable connects to when cable taken off, you should be able to very cearly feel the flap inside and hear it clonk if moved by hand.
If broken it's heater box out job.

Default Heater Direction Problem

Thanks for the reply tabetha,

If I put my hand in the side I can feel that the flap is moving, theres no clonk but it does move.

Do you think it needs to be taken apart? If so do I go in from the passanger side or is it behind the stereo?

Thanks

Andy

No it doesn't sound like it needs to come apart, if you can actually see the flap is attached, and where you put the cable on the arm for it to move is ok, then moving the control should move it, unless it has become detached at the control mech.
Defo not a take out heater job, it's just the movement at the control is not being transfered to the flap bit, so investigate the control next.
