when my car is MOT'd i sit in it and do the lights.. so if my flashers didn't work, they wouldn't know cus i'd just put main beam on. but i think it is part of the mot

No not part of the test unless it effects another light eg you flash and the dipped beam goes out.

hi on old pugs 205 and 309 there is no flasher option just pull it towards you and beams are on pull it again and beams are off thats how i flash them so you have to pull the stock twice to flash it once its a pain but my car and mates car passed mots at different garages with it so id imagine you would be ok if you can do that.

what year is the corsa??

Would say that it isn't, as not all cars had main beam flashers. As long as main beam works I think you will be ok. Unless it's a case of it being fitted it has to work.

im an mot tester and yes it has to work although there is a chance your tester may not use the flasher and just put the main beam on

There is nothing in the rule book that says about how the mainbeam is applied, so no you don't have to have it on the stalk at all, and certainly a flash pull is not required.
Some cars don't have it here, they have foot switches for dip/main beam, like me mates moggy.

As I said then, and strictly speaking the foot switch on the Moggy is not a true flasher like the stalk as it requires the headlights to be on for it to work.
