can burning a 8x compatible dvd-r disc at 8x make it cause lock ups on certain 'normal' dvd players?
even though nero says completed ok and has verified it and the damn thing works fine on the PC playing back?

do they play fine at lower speeds on the same drive/media?
i know CDs used to have issues when burned at high speed even tho the drive and media were both rated to that speed.

they are verbatim 8x dvd-r and using a brand new sony d22dw dvd rewriter.
they work in my mates logix dvd player, they work in my panasonic dvd player but not my other mates sanyo one - well i say i deosnt - it gets about a 1/3 way through then locks up and the only way of restartiong it is to switch the power off and back on. even if u go to a scene after the point of lockup it wont play.
ill try buring at 4x then and see how it goes. cheers.

Dave,
I know that some brands of DVD media can cause problems too. This might help, it reports on success with different dvd players and DVD-R brands for some players. Hopefully your friend's one is in the list.

its not so much the discs that cause the problem but the dye they use, ive had problems in the past with verbatim discs not working. these discs use their own dye called "Metal Azo"
best discs ive found use "g04" dye, normally Ritek discs
you can now get "g05" dye discs that can record at 8x speed
try http://www.rambox.co.uk/rambox.php?f...&category_id=1
couldnt find your model dvd, have a look here http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/index.htmand see if your firmware needs updating as this can help the performance of your dvd
