Default Been Offered a Nice Saffy Cheap

Been offered a White, G plate 2wd Saff, approx 380 bhp, leathers, t35, greens, wrc crank and cams, group A breather 17" Kahn RSR's, etc, nice condition, 140k miles, for 3k. Should I do it or not?!?!

I know it needs a bit of welding on the spare wheel well, and its starting to develop a very mild rust film underneath, but like I say, its only very mild.

A friend of mine had it for about 5 years and part exed it for an MR2 Turbo in oct 2003, the guy has now had it since then, and it has not been driven above 110mph and also it has not been driven at more than 12-13 psi boost, I know the engine is a strong one due to the bits that have been put in it, and it has about 22k on this engine.

This car is a monster, I remember from when my mate took me out in it, and I've wanted it since he sold it as I didn't have the cash then, but now I've got the cash to splash and its burning a hole in my sky rocket!!!

Should I buy it for £3000???

Opinions please! Cheers!

I would.

Edit: In fact, if you don't buy it, give me the details, and I'll seriously consider it.

Rob

What about history, who it was serviced and rebuilt by?

I personally dont think it not having been above 110mph is important as they were designed to go at least 150mph. More importantly I would say is how it got to 110mph, i.e red line through each gear.

The price is not bad for its miles and performance. I would have thought when you are getting up to those sort of K's things like gearboxes become and issue and that BHP.

I am sure others can offer a more comprehensive reply!

Wont be 380bhp unless its on 8 greens.

Somehow cant see it being a WRC crank or cams either.

But 3k is cheap for a decent saff no matter what the spec...

I know of an ex-Collins car that made 380 on 4 greys... Can easily believe it was. Pasted my saff with 4 greens and 27psi held.

edit: Didn't see the bit about greens... I'll get me coat

Well its got a nice wad of SH with it, it was rebuilt by my mate who had it originally, he used to work at an RS place in matlock I think so he knows what hes on about, I think the crank and cams were ground to wrc spec, meant to put that on there but forgot.

The guy at the moment who has it is scared shitless of it, doesn't redline it and as far as I know hasn't taken it over about 5k.

It won't be running 380 atm coz its peaking at about 13psi as the lad is scared of it.

It has had a new box fitted at the same time as the engine as well, although I do know its been hammered, but most saffs have right?!?!?!

I've driven it before my mate sold it to one of his mates and it still felt tight and responsive, even the leather is in about 90% condition which aint bad for a 140k car. It has a 4 paddle clutch in it as well. If I can find a pic I will post it up.

If you trust the guy who built it then buy it IMO, sounds like it could be a bargain!

whatever the power, i would have it if you trust the previous owners history.

for me, the bodywork is a long way in second place behind the condition of all of the mechanical components. a bit of rust underneath that can easily be repaired and doesn't show from the outside is as good as you will get for that money.

i've just paid a grand for a pretty std 2wd. it needs an engine rebuild and new brakes all round which isn't too bad, but also needs a new front wing. that to me is the biggest pain in the arse as it's bodywork and shows.

Yeah I definately trust the guy who rebuilt it, have known him for about 3 years and is a top bloke. I'm saving up like mad so that I can afford it when he comes to sell it in about a month or so. Got another 1500 to save up then I can have it, might just get a loan top up tho I want it that bad.

Found out the other day its got full selection of gauges in it, Koni's all round, uprated discs and pads all round. I really want it lol.

I reckon it could push 380 with some different injectors, coz I was offered an Escort Cossie off a guy I used to work with, Jay Brown, that was 415 bhp on 4 light blues I think they were, so with any luck I could get some nice power for not a lot of money.

Exactly what I thought.

BET its got 'Group A this' and 'WRC that' as well.... normally means the seller hasn't got a fooking clue what he is talking about!

it was rebuilt by my mate who had it originally, he used to work at an RS place in matlock

thats not the best rs place in the whole of england, sold orion gearboxes as erst gear boxs and now live in thailand

think for 3 grand its a bit too cheep as if he worked at rogersports im sure he knows what its worth

think the quotes are just the usualy pub talk of people claiming big bhp as rod tarrys car is the same colour so mine must be fast ect

but IF thats the spec then 3 grand ya can sell and make 5 grand easy all day long !!!

btw 5 grand in 5th gear is alot more than 110mph, infact ya can get 110mph in 3rd on a cossie

on and whys he running soo little boost with them cams too, if hes tell the truth the car will drive like a bag of shite as theres not enough air flowing and will be soooo laggy

yes i have made sooo many moaning posts about lag on may car and then stu set it up and theres almost no lag, the cams and lack of boost caused the lag !!!!

good luck and i think ya will get 600 for the wheels either way , then ya got a cossie for 2600 thats a better spec than mine that i payed a bit more for

LOL thats usually the case, but as I know the lad who used to have it, I know its got certain bits on it.... can't believe he's selling it coz hes scared of it tho and has boost turned right down....first thing I'd do is turn that straight up and get a rolling road set up done on it.

i dont belive that as tbh im scared of my cossie and i discovered if i dont use full throttle in 1st and second or 3rd in the wet its all cool

and tbh a cossie is one of the most stable cars ive driven at 130 ( notice i say driven !!!!!)

a erst cabrio at 120 deffo aint he same, feels like ya breaking he sound barrier and the lack of roof means all ya can hear is the zorst

never again, deffo check it out thou as a cossie on greens with a t34 for 3 grand is a steal either way !!!!

i wouldnt have posted here as id be to busy tapping the missus for the money to buy it

no all thats fine as it means the guys is eiterh bigging up his car to sell it ( like all the rst boys claim they got 220bhp, no matter what the spec and cossie management gets ya 230bhp crap)

turn the boost back up ( how did he turn it down btw !!!) and then test itm, that will be fooking rapid if ya try and floor it, not gonna kill ya, use a motorway and then they seem slow except cars seem to be behind ya up ya arse and then ya accelerate and then ya off and the cars miles away and ya doing 120mph when ya was doing 80 ( fooking wierd at first but very addictive, warning though will drink petrol doing that !!!!)

LMFAO!!!! I reckon I could raise the money in a few days as 3k is feck all....

Just gotta wait until he decides to sell it as he needs it until he gets a new car, another one of the reasons hes selling it is that he cannot afford the petrol bill so he's getting a diesel instead

I do know that it definately needs a good mapping session doing on it as well, which i'm taking into account. Got a flamer on it and spits massive flames as well lol.
