Default HELP!!!! Escort Mk4

so last saturday I went to my mechanic to clean the carb on my 1.1 engine. This week I noticed that when it is on the 3rd gear it really slows down, and I have to give it full throttle on second.

I noticed that on my usual roads when I used to drive in 3rd gear without np, now I am driving in second full throttle. anyone has ANY idea please??

thankx guys hope it isnt a costly problem!!

could be the mixure hasent being set proplerly on the carb once his put it back together so could be running to lean , not enought fuel getting into the engine , might explaine why its struggleing on start up aswell, but could also be that the timeing is out a bit did or has he touched this as this can have a an effect on power and start up

1.1 is a chain driven endura isn't it, so timing shouldn't be a problem. Not surprised you're having problems, my mrs used to have a 1.1 fiesta, couldn't suck the skin off a rice pudding, must be hell having to pull an escort around!!!

Deffo sounds like its not been set up properly though

I phoned the mechanic and told me this aswell that it must be running lean.

well, today went to college and asked a mechanic to take a look at it. It was running very lean, supposed to be grade 2 but was 0.40 lol. I think now its a bit better! He arranged the mixture. So by upping the petrol intake the mpg will be shit?? or it will be better seeing that the car will be comfortable and not having to give i all on second!

should give better mpg as its running to its best efficiency. Plus running it lean will damage your engine, so its better for it!
