if you go in to the video settings on your xbox you can link in to your laptop to stream the the films from your laptop to your xbox tells you how to do it if you click on it
or link them both in to your router and share you laptop on there and you should be able to see it on your xbox and access it

or like i do ive got my vids on my external hard drive i just plug that in the usb on the back of the xbox

Plug in the xbox to the laptop using network cable and then Bridge your incoming Net connection to your Wired network, I did it for about a year as I was too tight to buy a Wireless adaptor!

Buy a USB memory stuck and copy any thing you wanna watch onto it. Plug it in the 360 and it will play straight away. Much better than streaming IMO as less to go wrong.

I have a desktop, wired to my router and also the xbox wired cause its close enough at the min.

When i first turned it on and then went onto my desktop, it came up with a link to the xbox automatically. I just clicked off it as i was more interested in playing the xbox.

Is that link for playing movies etc?

You should be able to stream movies using that connection mate.

Google streaming through XBOX 360 and you should find all the instructions.
