Probe gets my vote although I once drove a brand new 24v one from Pattersons in Newcastle to a dealer in Scotland and it wasn't that bad. Just looks like yank shit.

If anyone says the 1.3 escort encore, i WILL kill them!

Ford Fiesta Ghia 1.6 Diesel.. Have you driven it? Feels like a piece of shit welded with pure rust onto a set of rotating paving slabs...

By that logic, Mk1/2/3 Escorts are also the worst UK Fords, as their gutless rotboxes.. even though there are 'powerful' versions.

Mk3 fiesta would be my vote..

they don't handle well.. they rust like you simply wouldn't believe.
they were all slow. they used the Mk5/6 escort lower arms...which last about 2 weeks LOL.
the only saving grace was when someone decided to
use up all the left over CVH turbo engines in them!

mk3 fiesta - good handling car for what it is, not the best in its year ability or its technology that was available, but its far from the worst car made by them!

scorpio comment about comfortable - cannot agree more, looked horrid at the front, but it was a great driver!

You could say the exact same about any old Ford, especially the Escort.

As for the lower arms, I've never had a problem with them or heard of anyone having problems with them. Unless you have been using cheap ebay ones?

I had the misfortune of having to use a 1991 J plate Orion 1.4 L (the then new at the time mk5 escort shape), back in the very early nineties as a temporary company car, no PAS, the slowest steering rack in living memory, asthmatic wheezy noisy gutless cvh engine, rattles and squeeks everywhere and it had the usual odd plasticky smell that they all came with. Fooking awful car - had it for a month and was glad when it went back to the leasing company.

As for the cougar, we had one on long term demo from Ford Fleet, a 2.0 one with leather, and i thought it drove really nicely and was something different to look at. In no way would i describe it as a bad car, thats for sure

The probe was really a Mazda MX something, though, so it doesn't count.

The 1.3 Orion Mk 5 I had for a short term company car was shit so I guess the Escorts were too, though the wife's 1.8 Mk 6 was quite good - we bought it new 3/98 when I had FoMoCo employee discount and kept it for almost 12 years and the only recurring problem was the front wishbones, despite using genuine Ford replacements for genuine Ford factory parts - eventually fitted a set of poly bushes and that seemed to sort it.

The Cougar was OK in an ordinary sort of way, but the ridiculous driving seat stopped me buying one - every time you moved the seat forward to let someone in or out of the back you had to reposition the seat even though every other car of its time seemed to be able to "remember" where it should return to.

Worst Ford would probably be the Fusion - take a Fiesta, uglify it, stick it on stilts and send it out into the world.

People saying mk3/4 escorts etc cos they are rot boxes talk shit! Thats the same as every ford! The fact they are so popular even now along with mk1 and 2 makes me think that your talking bollox and not getting the question of the topic! The escort is one of the best selling cars ever! Goms! Youll be saying sierras, capris etc next

Worst cars ford have made are such as the probe etc!
