Ominous knocking noise
Haven't been on here in a while chaps and chapettes
I'm after a little bit of advice on my P reg escort gti, i think the cold weather has really taken it's toll on the poor blighter
Over the past couple of days it's developed a strange knocking noise from the from the front of the car. It seems to be coming from roughly where i think the downpipe leads to the exhaust itself, but i could be mistaken as its too dark to see by the time i finish work.
It only makes the noise when setting off in first with near enough full lock on i.e. pulling out of a side road. It makes the same noise whether I'm turning left or right. It doesn't do it when i'm already rolling and turning left in 2nd at a set of lights for instance.
Obviously it's related to the steering in some way, does anyone know what it may be?
It had it's mot a couple of months and I was advised the bushes were slightly worn, could the cold weather have made them more brittle and possibly crumbled?
All this steering witchcraft of bushes, cv joints and track rod ends confuses me lol.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

This is why PF is awesome, super fast answers boys, cheers!
Are we saying it could be both, or just one or the other? Sorry if this seems a daft question, engines and electrics i can understand to an extent but the whole steering/suspension thing passes me by no matter how many time I try and get my head round it lol.
If it's both those things Glenny Boy's suggested (if that's even possible ) anyone got a rough idea how much the parts are gonna shake me down and the length of time it'd take a garage to do it?

well the bottom arms are common for going on the escorts and the fiestas. Does the noise come on when your going over rough roads and pot holes. You can check your link rods by grabbing hold of the anti roll bar and try to move it up and down. If it moves it could be the links. The roll bar bushes might of worn too.
