Default accident on the way home from work this morning black ice

was travelling home from my night shift going down the a66 ,i was looking down the road and a young lad had fallen off his motor bike and was layed on the side of the road,i tryed to stop my car , i was skidding on the ice but managed to stop the road just looked as it was wet,got out the car and nearly fell over, got over to the young lad to see if he was ok,my car was on the side of the road lights on and hazards flashing, the next thing i knew was i heard a sound like wind blowing past my ears ,i looked just behind me to see my car flying of down the road ,a vauxhall astra hit it about 70 trying to dodge another car also skidding, then hit a bmw spinning it round a few times, the peugeuot just drove off,so we tryed to slow the cars down still coming down the road, the ambulance came to treat the lad who fell of his bike, they all got in the ambulance i looked up the road to see a vectra coming backwards in a spin ,i shouted them in the ambulance but it was to late,it just ploughed in to the back of it,they were all ok tho, then the police cars arrived they were trying to slow the traffic ,another car came along and smashed in to the policecar as people were watching on the otherside of the road as they went by the same happend to them cars were spinning of evrey were, eventually the a66 was closed down,i was there for 2 hours while the police tryed to sort it all out ,my car was written off but i was very lucky if i had been a couple of more inches to the left i probaly would of been dead ,there was no grit on the road there soon was tho as we all stood in amazement as the gritter went past we were all just lucky no one got hurt

2 lads i work with live in middlesbough and work in darlington. He seen a few cars this morning at about 5.30 ish the wrong way round and smashed up on the A66. The 2 lads have traveled the same road for nearly 10 years and he said its the worse it has ever been. Why couldnt they just grit the roads. Even where i live the council hadnt even gritted the roads. Glad your ok mate. I hope everyone else was ok.

several councils have cut back on gritting this year and many more planning to cut back next year!

There are some things they shouldnt be allowed to cut back on. Gritting is one of them.

It makes you laugh when they cut back on essential things like gritting yet they will spent thousands on pointless stuff. Prime example for you here at the top of my road a main road meets a dual carriageway, last year they moved a bus stop from the duel carriageway (its been there 30 odd years) & put a lay by in on the main road to relocate it a massive amount of work, now that bus route has been changed & there isnt even a bus that runs on that road now

The road looks fine in the pics, and its straight and only a 50limit? doesnt look dangerous at all from the pics but it obviously was!

Lucky escape really, at least you have insurance and the car is repairable

it was slippy this morn thought i was going to hit a parked car in the bm as i pulled out of my road (all snow & ice) on to the bus route it was just black ice luckly missed the car tiptoed it to work

there was a crash on newport bridge & on the 66 over newport roundabout thismorning to

think the gritters are now privately ran so nothing to do with the council much like everything now they ship it out to contractors so they cant be blamed for it when it goes wrong

wonder if anyone has crashed on the stretch of the a19 coming out of peterlee yet where i crashed 11 years ago due to speed & black ice

i meant the old saying, at least a car is repairable unlike the human body, obviously that particular car is a write off but it can be replaced

Mulla, you need to ...

a) check out what the average price for the same car is local to you and collect a selection of say 15 examples

b) look at parkers price guides etc for what they are claiming it will be worth.

This will gived you an idea of what they will be offering - to what it will cost to replace if you wanted to,.

Finally, in our case it was the inspector that priced the car, my sister kept sweety sweet with him and he up'd the offer prrice from 4k to Ł4500 after she said she wasn't happy and that the cars he was suggesting as comparision were not in the same league.

Currently about to do it all again from her crash today!
