why are british roads so crap?
did a 500mile round trip over christmas between sheffield and winchester.
first challenge, 14 miles of 50mph limit on the m1 between 28 and 25. nobody working on it, not a person in sight, so why not knock the limit off for the holidays?
next bit they messed up,where the a43 joins the m40,it was perfectly ok before then they messed it up sticking a stupid roundabout on the junction which means permanent tailbacks.
coming back, where the a34 joins the m40! 3 mile tailback so you are forced to do a detour through all the local villages if you want to get anywhere. then you get stuck on that stupid roundabout where you join the a43 again.
last but not least 4 miles of standing traffic on the m1 through the 50 limit while they rescue one twatting car from the nearside lane. bloody terrible.
anyway,500 miles,28mpg and averaged 43mph. why can't our roads be more like the germans or the french? no roadworks,no cameras and no cops.
rant over

The ladies love it French
Or a South American one if you've watched the Top Gear special!
To be fair, we just have way too many cars in such a confined space, anything out of the ordinary causes huge tail backs especially this time of year when every tom dick and harry are trying to move around the country

where i live the concil decided to build a road in the town to help traffic congestion. This road has only made it worse. More tail backs and the road they built hardly use the road cause its pointless

have you seen them fix pot holes its brilliant process goes exactly like this
1)put signs up day before saying road will be cloased
2)arrive next day put tar on to heat
3)have coffe and peice
4)pour hot tar in hole
5)wait 5 mins
6)drive over and attempt to fletter tar with VAN wheel
7)admire work pick up signs and bugger off home
then next time it drops below 0 it shatters or next ime it gets driven over by anythuig remotly heavy (ie tractor) out it comes its soo friggin annoying

I kid you not, the other day the council repaired a pot hole in a junction, and put a traffic cone in the middle of the road!!! You basically had to drive at oncoming traffic across a junction to avoid it!!
The best though, A few years back there were some major delays caused by traffic works on a major road by us, BUT nothing was actually being done.
A mate called the council who told him to contact the contractors, so he did, and got told that they were waiting for the street light bulbs!!! and it could be six weeks!!!!!!
They also told him the work had been sub contracted out, and, the reason the cones and reduced speed limits had been left in place was because after a helth and safety review it was considered 'safer to leave them out than to have work men bring them in and put them back out when work could comence'!!!
So, he suggested that six weeks was time enough for it to be worth while removing the works, and that the delays/cost caused by this to his firm may be worth of legal action.
The next day ALL of the cones had been taken in, but the speed reduction was still in place. Another call to ask why this was as now there was NO roadworks being carried out resulted in the speed limt being removed and the road being returned to normal.
Five minutes of polite, well worded calls from a person who was a delivery driver lol!! got it sorted.

The roads in the us and canada are both really shitty, for instance there was several big pot holes on a bridge i used to commute to work on, they used to warn people on the traffic news, but the holes were there for at least a week.
However.. I know a guy who has a ecos, he was driving through soem roadworks where the top had been skimmed annd he cracked his splitter on a raised manhole. he emails the council to claim, the council say the contracted the job out, so he contacts the contractor, their reply was they contracted it out, he contacts the next contractor and again they contracted it out. The next one wwere the ones who did the job, and a cheque was in the post. But everytime the job awas contracted out, for a little less money every contractor made a little for doing fuck all. They need to change the rules to state that whoever gets the original contract MUST do the job. that would free up alot of money to fix more roads.
My uncle used to work for the council, and he said he couldnt believe the amount of back handers that happen, doesn't supprise me though.. crooked cunts!!!

I can see that as the road surface's get worse more people will use 4x4's as they are more suited to the rough surface.
As for improving the road system, ha that happens 20 years too late. Where I live we have one of those multi 5 roundabouts in 1. Everybody with an ounce of common sense can see that they should put some slip roads in to relieve the congestion. Plans have been drawn up but 11 years later work has still not started !!!!!

I bet you dont know how bad roads are in Finland. People drive with stud winter tyres between october -> april and scrapping and ruining roads. In Spring time asfalt is so coarse it wears new summer tyres really fast and that tyre noise is so horrible i have to use ear protectors. We have also over 4 inch deep holes in road normally. Tax money goes where it does, but not in roads. We have to pay tax for the petrol & cars & car options & car usage and next they plan silly emission or total weight based taxes to tax more! So cars are really expensive here and average people normally drive cars which are made 80-90´s. I have been sometimes in Germany or Italy and roads there are like heaven to drive. Lottery win to live in Finland
