Default Any diesel specialists? (Vauxhal 1.9 vivaro)

Looking at a vauxhal vivaro tomorrow, will only start with "a bit of spray down the inlet"!!!

once started runs ok apparently, just wondering if any common probs with this engine...

Im guessing high pressure pump?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Merry xmas,
Pete

i have had them that need a blast of bradex to fire up,usually its dodgy glow plugs,a weak battery,or theres a pipe leak.
worst case is its got worn rings and a lack of compression, had a few vans like that that start shit in the cold but once running they will run alll day, they just breathe.

if the diesel pump is fooked it won't go on the key but will if you drag it down the road on a rope.

i was gonna say glow plugs. They are a common thing to go wrong on the 1.3 diesels. Is there any engine lights on.

its the renault 1900 dci engine in the vivaro, the usually ok reliability wise, the whole van is renault just vauxhall badges..... could possibly be a majorly clogged fuel filter, undo the water drain plug on the bottom of the fuel filter, i had a lagund with the same engine once which was lazy to start and gutless changed the fuel filter and it was perfect after that

Give vivaros in any of their orientations a wide birth. I went against advice given to me and bought one and sold it a year later after spending thousands on it. They are a crock of shite. Don't learn the hard way as I did.

Gear boxes, fuel pumps, injectors....crap!

Whilst I'd normally agree that all things french are shite.

A friend has a new 1.9 Traffic, had it for over a year so far, and zero problems. They also give a 3 year or 300k warranty !!!

Surely they cant be that bad with a warranty like that ? Or is it older models. Although his van does only see light usage, which probably makes a huge difference.

exactly.

if you want a superb reliable, stunning van it has to be a vw transporter sportline, 188 bhp. my dad has bought one it had a remap and runs 213 bhp, its pretty damn quick for what it is and looks awesome.

the vivaro/traffic is very reliable if you get 1.9 non turbo di model, slow as hell but nothing breaks

or a old diesel tranny, the pumps don't shit them selves, they don't have glow plugs and havn't since 86,parts are cheep and they do great mileage on bio diesel.

i just bought a t reg tranny 80 with electric windows, heated electric mirrors, central locking, cloth seats and a side door and power steering for 500 quid, used it a few times and sold it for Ł950,nowt went wrong in the 2 weeks i had it and my mate who had it before had nowt go wrong either in the 6 months he had it.

can't beat a good old cheep tranny diesel imo
