there is a small lip on the discs but new pads are slightly smaller than originals so its not sitting on the lip.

it's the squeal of the dust in the gaps i was told originally

since then, it seems to depend on a lot of other factors, such as the type of pad, newness of the discs and stuff like that

mine squeak when i reverse, but not when i go forward, but only when it's been raining, so go figure

ive just had a look with a torch looks like the old pads werent touching the inside of the disk anymore and the new pads are now taking the rust off
i guess it might stop once the rust has gone lol

if you've got drilled or even grooved discs, they normally squeel than standard flat faced discs

Disc brakes rarely used to squeal when pads contained asbestos,,,, but they did used to wear out a lot quicker.

As copper grease seems to stop squeal, it could be the pads moving around on the piston
.

i always copper slip the back of the pads and run emery cloth over the disks and slightly on the pads too just to key the surfaces so they don't glaze, never get squeeling then.

another thing i always do when fitting new pads, is grind the edge of the pads slightly, this always stops squeeling

problem with brake squeal is that back in the day they used asbestos in the pad material to disperse heat.now thats deemed dangerous they use metal filings in the material.brake squeel is nigh on impossible to eliminate permanenty but cleaning carriers, copper grease back of pads etc can help it for a while
