Right im 16 at the mo (17 in Feb) and im looking to get my self a nice little fiesta some time in January (nice chap and disposable) and spend some time tinkering with it. and I thought I would ask here is there any ones to look out for/avoid and what like are they to insure and it will all be under my own name to get the NCB.

my first car was a 1.1 mk2 fiesta, insurance was still pretty steep and i was 19 at the time, was a great car to learn in, no fancy abs, power steering etc and its really easy to work on, ended up gettin fed up with the lack of power after being on motorbikes so fitted a 1.6cvh then a 1.8 zetec, brilliant wee cars andmine only cost Ł100 lol and taught me alot...

At 17 you will need to budget Ł1000 upwards for insurance on anything, based on the prices I've paid for our two lads.
Forget any idea of modifications for a couple of years, and get something cheap to buy and run, then learn how to drive before thinking about something better when you have a couple of years NCB and have got past the "6 points in two years and you're banned" stage.

I would say the best car to get is a 1.25 fiesta MK4 or MK5 depending on your budget.
The 1.25 engine a not going to rip the tyres off, but are a smooth reliable nippy little engine (MUCH better than the 1.3 rattle box engine).
The MK4 and MK5 are pretty much the same car but some more modern styling on the MK5,nice to drive, feel safe and will be cheap to insure.
Rust can be an issue so look out for rusted arches and sills etc. Service history will also be a bonus, but the engine should be nice and quiet and no rattling.
There shouldn't be any oil leaks on them, and my mother in law has one with 110k on the clock and runs like silk still.
No point in modifications for performance - gains will be minimal and insurance will rape you. At most go for a nice set of rims.
Pick a 3 door if you can and get it in a nice colour - silver/black etc
There will be LOADS to choose from so view a good few to find the right car, I try to stay away from anything that has been chav'd up as it may well have been ragged to bits. A nice standard car that has been the family shopping kart is often a nice little buy.

I would be looking at 1.6 MK1 Focus' as they're dirt cheap to insure compared to most older, smaller engined cars. Well screwed together and equipped as they come for the price/running costs.
Yea it possibly could be that, i'm thinking bout getting a mk4 escort in january and its cheaper to insure that. I'm with quinn direct at the mo.
yeah i think it is the age of the car mate as im with quinn aswell and yeah i know mk4 escort i think i will be gettin one of them i want a winter project atm either a mk1 fiesta or mk4 escort decisions lol
whats the real difference between the mk2 3 4 escorts??
mk2 rwd but going up in price like fook be hard to get a good one for under 5.5k
mk3 retro cool if clean always a head turner no to exspansive execpt the s1
mk4 s2 rst still cool imoa has to be 90 spec and mint

Fiesta mk1 lovely if mint and handles good

mk2 handles good
and still oldskool cool

if you go for an early one then lift the carpets and look for rust, check sills, inner wings etc
maybe worthwhile joining a fez forum too
heres a pic of the rust on one i've been given recently...

whatever you get mate you'll get raped on insurance, i was Ł1600 a year 3rd party on my fiesta XR2i at 19 just started driving. that was with swinton which were cheapest
dropped after that to an AX GT and after that it dropped from Ł1600 to about 400 a year with them
im Ł391 now on my fiesta mk3 diesel van with admiral, 0 NCB driving 2 years and no points, working in the motor trade.
mk2 fez ftw thought theyre arguable the best looking ones out there!
