Default harddrive help

i have just got as 200gb seagate harddrive to replace a 30gb. the bios can detect the drive as a 200gb and windows installs the drive, but it doesnt show up in my computer!!! y is this. im running windows xp and i have a fair upto date pc. this is realy getting to me now so please help

i have just instaled a 200 bg hdd to my comp wat are u running it as a slave ? if so did u chage the thing on it to slave ?

I think it's just a matter of your jumper settings on the back of the drive. Set it to slave on the drive itself and make sure your cable reflects this. Hope that helps

You need to create and format a partition in XP using Disk Management (right click My Computer->Manage or via Control Panel)

Right, has this hard drive just been put in as a second drive ? In which case, as said, you will need to create a paetition and format the drive. Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Adminsitritive Controls -> Computer Management -> Disk Management, there you should see the drive and can create a partition and format it

thanx for the help. and no it wasnt bought from maplin etc, it was from overclockers.co.uk1 dotn no howe much it was as it was a birthday prezzie. its a seagate drive so it is branded

thats showing very low for a 200gb it normaly shows a little lower as when its caculated it is rounded up or somehting but mine shows 186 gb so yours should be around that mark sorry cant help on sorting it tho

i have just been told that win xp ( the older versions ) didnt support larger harddrives.... and to get a patch from the windows website!!! so i gona have a little loooky. thanx again for the help
