black top all the way, they have a better sump set up, solid lifters, heads flow better all they need is bigger main caps but you can get them from the usa

yeh they are good for 370,ive been told the standard head is good for 350 before you need work doing to it but you need steel rods and low comp pistions

i havent seen any pics of failed silver tops either(ones done propely with out the bodge of a decomp plate)

ive heard of 600bhp black tops being used for drag racing so they are good for that and the one ime building at the moment wont be far off either

both engines responed well to being heavily modified and turbo'd.
silver top engine has far bigger mains caps which makes the bottom end slightly stronger as standard.
the black top engine has a baffled sump as standard , very slightly better flowing head until you have the area six ultimate head then theres hardly no difference , people will say rod ratio etc but just get rods to suit your needs.
oil pumps are a massive issue and the black top has had billet gears made so they are very strong
also you can buy billet mains caps for the black top but theres some machining work involved.
all these parts will cost more money on top and can be expensive.
when i asked ian howell which engine he preferes he says the silver top and hes the man to listen to
silver top engines have come up with the numbers etc and theres more silvertops running big bhp than blacktops
sunnys 460+bhp silvertop
mine 522bhp silvertop
dan arrowsmiths 536bhp silvertop
paul johnsons 500+bhp silvertop bottom end / blacktop head (major work mating the 2 together)
will gallops 660bhp blacktop (rallycross unlimited budget not what the average person can afford)
i think theres not alot in it but the blacktop is readily available

hope this helps

cheers paul

yeh shaun they do but you also need the caps that hold them inplace, the standard ones are spot on and have never heard of any giving up but its worth replacing them if your going for over 500bhp and its worth going for a dry sump kit or a uprated oil pump

so people say mate, its all down to luck as i reved my engine to 7500rpm on the silvertop pump and everything was fine and i think sunny ran his upto 8200rpm with no fail , but ask luca he was the unlucky one and for the sake of Ł100 i think its a worth while mod that could save you your engine.

cheers paul

yeh its worth geting the head done as then later when you want more power its already done, a gt25 off a focus rs will do 300 but wil be on its limit or a gt28 and if you have room in your wngine bay you could use a t34, ime runing pectel t2 managment and so are most of the people who have posted in this thread and if i was building up a new setup i would still use pectel t2

what mk fiesta is it going to go in?
