Default Any electrician in??? lighting question

I have 4 old downlights here, with two way switching and a dimmer, when the neutral is connected I get no live at the lights but when the neutral is disconnected I get a live. Cant get them to work, I thought maybe broken neutral but the cable tests out fine and the other lights on the circuit work. Help!!!

Description is too vague.

There either is a live or isnt. It would have no relevance to there being a neutral there or not, or if its connected.

Test live to earth with a multimeter to prove there is a live conductor. This will at least prove the light switch is working.

Just how exactly are you determining if there is a live or not ?

The dimmer is the most likely suspect, swop it for a normal 2 way switch or try the dimmer on another 2 way circuit if you have one.

Where are you disconnecting the neutral?
What colour cable are you getting the live on, when there is one?

More info required.
