The love of old fords
Do you ever think the the ford scene will ever die.All i ever seem to here is that people are sick of there old fords and want a more modern and so called reliable car.Like cossie owners getting sick and moving onto evos or subarus. If everyone does this in my eyes the ford shows will get quieter and quieter.
I love my cossie to bits and have thought a few times about selling it myself, but i just love it every time i get in it to drive it.
I love my fords loads and would hate to see the ford shows getting quieter.
What are your thoughts on this.

cant see it happening, ive only been doing shows for the last 3-4 years, had mk2xr2's for last 10 years, and id say the ford scene has grown, cars are getting rarer so its more enthusiasts now than say chavs driving xr2's/rs turbos,5 years ago i could pick up a half decent xr2 T&T'ed for well under a grand, not any more,

no more Granada's for me
I don't think it will ever die, the trouble is, you sometimes stray from them, I had 2 supra's for a while and loved them, but I just couldn't resist the oval badge for long. I think sometimes what I love about old fords is that great feeling ya get when all is well, but even if it isn't, we get the spanners out an fix it, an that I do enjoy, its a bloke thing. trouble is with a scooby or evo, I wouldn't know where to start.

The problem is as the cars age, so do the majority of people who love them.
I can see smaller, enthuiast clubs forming in years to come, much the pre 80's ford clubs that exist now withe the anglias, cortinas capris etc.
Also as with all "classic" cars, parts get increasingly expensive and or illusive to find, which sadly drives out the younger folk.
Take mk1 and 2 escorts, as an example.
What does intrest me is the question that - will the New generation fords ie 2000 onwards get the same following as both the early fords and the 80s fords now have?

it will certinly get a lot smaller and IMO. its been slowing the last 5 years.
As IMO ford havent done anything interesting, they are simply a selling machine.
The new Focus and the old focus is very much a marmite car, not iconic i dont think.
Too much competetion the modern age fords are drowned out by background noise from other competitors.
back in the 80's there was nothing that touched the 3dr, and again when the escort came out rally wise.
now, every manufacturer has something to rival the focus RS.
its a very small slice of a very big pie IMO.
back in the day i think ford owned the cake shop!

in a way i think ford themselves are to blame cause like people said they have made some bland cars. I know the stoc is a popular club cause they are a modern ford and people use them everyday.

No chance, they have made some very nice motors since 2000, ST220, ST170, ST150, Focus ST, to name a few, all very nice cars, but they wont have the same appeal as the older cars imho, with maybe the exception of both FRS. if you comapare the newer generation ive just mentioned to S1 AND S2 ERST, FRST, all the cossies etc, they just wont age as classics imho. even the normal MK1 and MK2 escorts, most car enthusiasts class them as the nice cars, cant see the same being said of the MK1 and MK2 focus in 20 - 30 years.

yeh i agree about ford owning the cake shop. If you look at old programs on the tv most of the cars are fords. Like i said blot of people use there old fords everyday so if they start to get faults on them and people might get sick of repairing them. I think thats when they turn to newer cars.

I personally think it,s thinned out quite alot the Ford Scene, i,ve been going to shows for well over 12yrs and there,s defo alot less folk than when i started.
I see it like this though, they,ll ALWAYS be a FORD RS scene because they,re CLASSIC cars now and you,ll always have a following for them, resteration jobs etc, PLUS imo good cars will increase in value too, ESPECIALLY when lots are getting broken these days, a good solid rust free, low milage example will always be sort after imo...
I did the whole Evo/Subaru/ M3 thing and yet i still came back.....DAFT TWAT I AM....

Happily retired
No it wont die just change & get smaller like even older cars.
The 1950's VW beetle fans are still out there & so are the 1930's Morris 8 Forums with fans just as dedicated as the Cossie boys.
Most of you will leave their RS Ford days behind, check this or any modified car Forum & you will find most in their 20's & 30's still a lot hanging on in their early 40's not many still here in their 50's & im probably alone being here in my 60's so yes only a very small minority will stand the test of time, in my 15 years around RS's many many die hard ' I will be here till I die' fans have found that other things in life become more important & leave & they wont be back.

i think thge modern fords 1995 onwards, will become parts of other groups and not just ford anymore.
but there always be a place for the classocs, theres still anglinas cortinas etc, just not alot of them, and they seem to be older people that can afford them.
the days of a 19 year old being able to buy a nice rst or xr are over, now you hvae to be older and most of them time restore them before you can use them.
there mostly rusted and panels are hard top get, this puts people off even more, where as landrovers and minis still have huge suppliers selling every panel there is, or chassis etc.

I love my S1 christ the people who know me know the shit i have with this car,But as glen said once your in and driving it ohhhhh get's my heart racing and the passion for the car return's
I have owned newer car's mondeo's and cougar's,Imo i love the old skool way Just so much easier to fix the engine bay's are not full of shit everywhere,And no driving aid's
All we can hope for is "our" kid's remembering our RS's and XR's and thinking my dad or mum had or still has one and i want to restore one and have one
As someone who want's a quick car will buy a ST or Focus RS instead of a 20 year old motor.

i agree with john the older fords are easier to work on than newer cars. I love the look i get when i drive my car cause most people stop and stare at the car.

You guys have it so easy.
To be into these cars where I live takes serious commitment and work. You get drowned in hot rod, muscle cars and asian rot boxes.
The RS/XR scene over here is tight but very, very small. W're spread out over thousands of miles.
Enjoy what you have, you have it so damn easy.

The S1 RST go and find part's for it.All stock part's interior etc exhaust's etc and it's not easy at all in fact near impossible for most part's now( in good condition) .
