Thanks for all the replies

Im starting to get fed up actually taking the car out cause it will piss the neighbours off. I keep the noise to a minimum everytime I use the car. I have to tell anyone visiting my house to not sit in the car with the engine running and to drive off as slow as possible keeping noise down.

Round my girlfriend's a neighbour has 2 bikes, one for one and one for leisure. He comes home from work between 11pm and 1am. He bounces up the kurb infront of her house to get his bike in his garden. The Mrs hates it cause it vibrates the house, but I won't complain cause he turns it off as soon as he can. Starting it up on a Sunday morning @ 8am to go out on his 2nd bike and leaving it running for a few mins can be annoying, but Im not gonna complain as Im probably the only one where she lives still asleep and it happens once a week, if that.

Im gonna chat to the neighbours and ask what their problem is and how we can rectify it. When they get their lawn mowers out on a Sunday morning I will tell them to do it after lunch and see how they like it

as long as the cars are on privite property and the noise is not over a certain level (89db) there is not alot they can do. if it was on the street it is illegal to leave you car idling unatended. (ie you haveto be in it, standing ext to it wont do)

I used to feel the same about mine but you enjoy the car and why the fuck should they stop you. Once the council have come around and told you its okay you'll change your mind and stop being feeling so bad.

Tell JB he is being religious at causing wear to his car. Because it takes so long to warm up at idle, that means that car runs for 30 mins cold every day, whereas if he drove off, it would warm up much quicker and mean the car is only running cold for around 5 minutes a day.

My next door neighbour always slams his front door as hard as he can, which shakes my whole house, the radiators even rattle sometimes. They are noisy as fuck too, proper inbred cunts who can't seem to talk to each other without shouting, especially in the summer when they are outside. They are always smoking right outside the back of their house, so if i've got my back door or kitchen window open it fills my house with the smell of smoke. And they smoke in their garage when its raining (its a double garage, we have one each), so that makes my garage stink of fags too.

Although it pisses me off sometimes I occasionally have mates come over with noisy exhausts, and I tell myself it could be worse, they could be having parties every night, screaming kids and dogs barking etc, so I just put up with it!!

Perhaps you should start playing loud music at unsociable hours, so your neighbours can realise that you are not really as much as a pain in the arse as they think you are.

Few cars I know people have got have the timer connected so when they switch off it just idles for a minute regardless.

I am sure that brings a heap of comments wherever they go as people wont want know what it is for / inform him he/she has left their car running...

Can anyone point me in direction for some advice? (Im going CAB next week) As Im starting to get to the point of inviting a load of mates round on a Sunday with loud cars to piss them all off, but obviously thats not the way for peace
I am no engine expert. But all the people that are experts and have worked with cars all their lives all tell me that it is best to let the car warm up by driving it steady for first 3-5miles....

So, they are not unusual as I would be pissed off too.

Guys there is no hard fast answer. We are talking about mechanical components and simply experiences / opinions. There are far far too many dirver and mechanical variables for this to be a viable arguement.

All that can be said is 2 scenarios

1) Joe Bloggs knows a guy who sits and leaves the car idle for 5/10minutes all his life and the escort coss has lasted 200k with no problems so he MUST be doing something right...

2) Jim Bloggs knows a guy who has worked on cars all his life and swears by always driving it straight off and letting it warm up naturally and letting the fluids run through the engine.

etc etc etc

My logic and from what I have read has convinced me to think 'drive it easily' from the off.

i would have thought if the noise from your exhaust was excessive at idle your mot station would have picked up on it ,

I hate to play devil's advocate but all this "fuck the cunts attituide" only breeds more hostility and more arguements etc. I am not saying the OP is acting like that but certainly some of the posters here are.

The best solution for me is to work my little bollocks off in the right job so I don't need to have fucking neightbours!

And yes, the m3 and a few other cars have a restriction on revs when the cars cold. CTR is another, it limits revs to 5,000rpm to stop muppets wrecking the engine.

Wasn't directed at you. But I know how you guys feel with cunt neightbours. Thankfully I have moved to somewhere with very decent neighbours. My mother has an illness and could never get a mortage and didn't want to stay with her folks so she has ended up around lots of ignorant lazy fat smelly chav types I am afraid. If I earn enough in the future I will be mortaging somewhere decent for her to live in for the rest of her days so hopefully she can be happier. That is one of my goals

Marky: Why would you go outside and make a noise just because they have just moved in? Did you want to say to them without talking "I am one of you're cunt neighbours".

If that is you're out and out dream then I believe a lot of people could do it if you put you're mind to it. Of course it depends where in the UK you live and opportunities etc but if you have two incomes and aren't silly and work hard, eventually you should be able to get somewhere in the sticks with decent working space.

Very broad statement I know. But it is possible for many if they really wanted it.

Few of my mates have farms and folks that own farms, if not they have managed to mortage cottages with large barns to work on their cars for not a silly amount of money. The freedom to have more space is fan bloody tastic!

One day you will get older & perhaps wont have such a ' i dont give a shit attitude '.
Lets hope you have small kids that cant sleep because of neighbours with your attitude. The majority of people dont have loud modified cars & you have to respect that, in my street I would never rev, work on or drive my car to annoy my neighbours.
You sir are an irresponsible idiot.

We are in small section of newish build flats. Pretty much all young guys/couples and not much noise. But the cars are almost all 'hot'. Puma, focus rs, clio sport, evo 10, evo 7, x5(ok boring i know), st, mini s, subaru 420bhp, s3 audi.

All sort of trouble free fun cars that i can see the appeal of one way or another.

I am just a young chap myself (age is wrong in profile for some reason) and I was thinking just the same. There are lots of decent owners but the small minority tend to ruin it for the rest.

I don't see the problem with working on the drive if it is acceptable times, but I wouldn't rev or create a scene and try to avoid conflict with people.

2 wrongs dont make a right and all that bull! and as I said if they are cunts and you go and rev you're engine it just creates hostility and mini wars.

Rod, you are not going to achieve much by calling the guys idiots here as it will just go in one ear and out the other and you're likely to generate more abuse.

as said by some others, perhaps all you lot with loud exhausts could grow up and get a quiet car and show some consideration to your neighbours and fellow citizens (says he with an akrapovic exhaust on his v-twin motorbike ).

i would just cut out the unecessary idling and drive off slowly and considerately straight away as it will save you a lot of engine wear, oil changing costs, and fuel usage. and apologise to your neighbour and try and work things out before things escalate.

just a thought can you not fit a water/oil heater to warm the engine before you start the engine, like what they fit to doctor's car's...........if you have spent 6k on engine and want to keep the neighbours happy.

Trouble is, these people have no respect for something you enjoy, cars.
I've never had any trouble where i lived before, now i move to a so called Posh/area which is filled with Suits...

I've had a falling out with one neighbor which moaned at the fact i left my car outside on the road, which he intended to not just moan, but be rude, abusive, and also insulting my art work i call a car So i left my car there for a following week, he came out once again and because he was older than me, mid 30s and though hell i'm better than you, got just what he wanted, I mouth full from myself. yet hes not moaned, looked or even said one word apart from ''hows your car'' how are you.. i look, alright, then leave him be.

Lucky enough i have some good neighbours around me, one next door which has the S1, ford lovers, and good people.

I learn to respect others by how i get treated. There is moaning, and there is talking like a person, not a pile of dogshit they think can be treated. resolving a matter is not done by digging or moaning, its about a two way agreement.

Do planes ever go by? there loud, Flying pigs around aswell? just the normal bus coming by? they all make noise.

Anti lag FTW.

seriously though as long as your being reasonable then fuck em.

Some nieghbours are just whinging cunts.

Some idiot whinged about my car and i wasnt even ragging it. And the irony was that CHAV cunts rag it down my street with loud exhausts all the time, not to mention lorrys, CHAVs screaming and fighting and drunks being loud at 3am. And he dared to whinge about me driving sedately down the road Funnily enough he stopped whinging the day i went down the street with anti-lag on!! Sets off car alarms a treat.

I wasn't having a go at the OP, I was refering to the comment suggesting that you shouldn't have to show consideration to your neighbours, which I disagree with.

had similar at a old house.

my mum and dad both have harley davidsons with loud exhausts on them. they were at the time used at most once a week and only on warm summer days (never then lol)

they often went to matlock on a sunday (bikes all go there on sunday in the summer).

they would start the bikes up no earlia than 10am for a couple of minutes (time it takes to put jumper jacket helmet and gloves on and ride off quietly.

the first to complain was a bloke at the end of the road, all he heard was them riding past but he would still come out and try and block the road and tried to push my dad off his bike, my dad kept his cool and after having the police out (we called them) a coupole of times it was sorted, then the next door neighber (who my dad worked with) was heard complaining (not to us but colleagues) but was also saying they were revving them really loud at 8am on sundays...my dad didnt take kindly to the lie so ripped his shirt off his back and bopped him on the nose...job jobbed

I wasn't suggesting he shouldn't show consideration as i said earlier in the thread. I personally think he's done more than enough. Having seen other threads from the op about the same issue. IIRC one was about working on cars and he has said in this thread that he now only works on his own cars and he no longer has his mates over.

He has been more than considerate and has taken steps to keep the peace and dealt with the issues raised by his neighbour, this just amounts to being whinging fuckers now and i get the impression that they will just find something else to moan about if it isn't this.

I've lived next to really shitty neighbours in the past and as such i try and be as considerate as possible i dont want to be the people that my neighbours moan about. There is a lad with a stupidly loud exhaust 2 doors away and the drone from it irritates the shit out of me but it could be worse he only does it now and again, he usually just drives off. Its not a big enough deal to stir a load of shit about. My old man moans like fuck about his neighbours and winds himself up about it all the time. Everyone lives their lives differently, i dont cut the lawn/pressure wash the cars/ hedge cut on a Sunday afternoon as most people like to sit out in the summer, however some fucker is a diy carpenter and all you can hear is a router! Now thats annoying! Sunday is also really my only day off so i have little choice about when i do stuff.

So all that said i'd be pretty pissed off if i still got shit for stuff and if i felt that i couldn't have my mates round in an attempt to keep the peace.

some peole will complain
some peole won't give a shit
i've got no where to park the van tongiht and i'm not leaving it at the other house because it's pissing it down so it's gone in the drive

if the neigbour wants it moved i'll move it, but he's not goign to come knocking on my door is he

but it wasn't as if i didn't try, just wait till it comes to fisticuffs and the police being invovled, they don't give a shit either as long as you are young, they listen to oldies and take their sides, regardless if they are right or wrong, so if you've have tried your best then just tell them the next time they complain that you are tired of their constant moaning and if they want to take it further you can provide them with details of the local police station
