Escort Cossy Pricing
#41
getting over £20K in one lump sum for any escort cosworth is hard at the moment as for ones that have loads of mods like mine and are in concours condition getting what you want for the car is hard and most do get broken down as its the only way to get good money back its a shame but people would rather buy one for £15k and then spend £20k and more on it over the years than just buy one ready to go

but can you see the thing im getting at.
you expect 3-4k maybe 5k from a lower end saph or 3dr to a concourse.
i.e 4-5k average saph, 7-8 good/very good saph, 9-10k top end condition
3dr, 6-8k average conidtions, 8-10k good conidtion, 10-12k for a top end.
yet escort are a law untill themselves.
maybe its like paul has said, the ones that are high prices are major spec'd ones, and never actually acheive that price in one peice, hence there broken, and because of that pricing it scales everything up according? even though they dont achieve that price?
i.e i know its only a very very very select few that will pay over 20k for a escort.
i know we can all say, oh its amazing condition, i would definately pay that for it etc etc etc blah blah blah. but truth be told, you dont have the money, and even if you did, chances are you wouldnt buy it anyway,as you know what that sort of money would buy you in other car marques.
maybe its just me, but think have prices have escilated dramitaclly in the past 3 years for no apparent reason.

So the escort fits exactly the same pattern as 3 doors and saff's.

i think in general escos owners have they superior attitude about them hence the difference in price!
but its supply and demand i suppose as long as people keep buying them, just the seem with 500's etc!
Maybe in time the gap will close with 3 door as escos values, not sure what way tho,if the 3 doors will climb or escos will drop

6k seems to be the price range for both saphs and 3dr.
that would mean escorts should be from 10-16/17k? surely?
if you apply percentages to other car marques, that would be stupid, would mean super cars would have 30-40k price bands, yet none of them do.
and again, why are they worth double? they never ever used to be.

prime example here:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1387367.htm
see to me that seems quite reasonably priced for a dealer who sells cars every day to non ford buffs, and who is generally around 10% more expensive than private sellers.
Yet if that was on a ford site it would be 16-17k? am i wrong in thinking that?
im sure there is a term for this bumping up prices thing in the stock market, i.e overvaluing stock to inflate all other stock, but cant for the life of me think what its called.
im not having a pop at anyone, as people have the right to put their cars up for whatever they want, where they sell or not is another story, but just seems that it causes the classic "sheep syndrome" one does it, so everyone follows. baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

i.e in the "real world" as i call it, are there non ford buffs, punting there escorts at 25k
friends of mine in other car scene's piss themselves when i tell them how much cosworths are, and parts etc etc.

surely it shouldnt be about percentages though rather than real money.

The differences is prices between a low end saff/3door/escos are all reletive as you have to look at the percentages as a measure. Yes the actual amount of money is more, the higher the value of the car natually. You pay £4k-5k for a low end saff, and nice one will cost you double at £8-£10k. You can pay £6k for a low end 3 door and a nice one will cost you £12k. You pay £10k for a low end escos, and £20k for a nice one. See the pattern. Its all the same no matter what cosworth it is. Same goes with rst's fro example, £1500 for a low end one, and £3000 for a nice one.
Now if the question is why is the escos worth much more than the others (on a like for like basis of course), then theres many reasons for it, but this is where opinions will come into it. At the end of the day, there worth what people are willing to pay for them, and people are obviously prepared to pay more for an escos. Just like people are prepared to pay more for a 3 door than a saff.

But escorts don't top out at 20k though do they? They go way past it, I.e upto 27-28k
I think 20k for a low mileage concourse escort is just about right, but that isn't the case. There 24-25k

When it comes to cosworths (or any 'classic' at that), i think buyers stick them up for sale for a price they'd be happy with and if it doesnt sell, they dont really mind keeping hold of it and waiting for the right buyer.
Youve actually answered your own question mate. Yes around £20k (give or take a grand or 2) might very well get you a concours escos. Then a few grand more again will get you a big spec concours escos.

hard to find a completely untouched big turbo like that, and its got optional aircon and leather. 2 owners and sensible miles make it completely usable.
I bet you could get that for 12k as well
I dont see you in one though Ryan, sound like your hearts not in it, would be a make do car which is never a good idea

Think that's it pete, your the same as me who will pay top money for the right car, but maybe it's just because I've never considered escorts till now that they seem over priced IMO.
Maybe that's just it, but I love 500's and think the same, that there extremely overpriced and the pricing has got out of control on those but as has been said if people are happy to pay that for them.

Ryan,
As we said mate when you came to my old mans house, i fell VERY lucky imo paying 12k for my 3dr, i,d NEVER seen this car before in the flesh like you had and you kindly commented on HOW much cleaner the paint work etc looked now, i DON,T live in dream land and if i EVER did contemplate selling again then i,d price tag it @ 13k minus the CXN,s...when they arrive....
Yes i,ve spent 5k on it, BUT that was my prerogative and you know full well when doing that 90% of the time you DON,T get modding money back. FACT....
