Default Escort Cossy Pricing

Just a question.

Why is the escort pricing so massive compared to the other cossys?

and pretty much most classic cars compared to its pricing.

i.e 10-30k!

thats a 20k price bracket!

3dr is like 5k, even 500's are like 10k price brackets.

any reason why?

Maybe the run of years Ryan?? don,t know just a guess.. .ie. 1993 was it the first, or 1992 and til 1996.

Where-as 3drs etc just had 1year really between them registration wise..

AND i,d say the 30k cars are proper concours BIG build cars like Duncs etc.. low end 10-12k cars probably seen better days etc..

Just guessing of course....

agree with staffi

but some people sell them to peole how have no idea about cossies and just think the escort is the king of the world so will pay a stupid price for them.

i also think that there is alot more big build escorts with alot of money poured into them so this my be the reason you see more of the higher priced ones

yeah i can understand that, but just seems bloody stupid.

so a massive margain, i used to think m3 and csl had massive margins due to spec variations and mileage and facelift etc etc, but even they were like a 5k price band.

nothing like escorts

Ajc, I see your point about the 100k mile ones being 9-11k but there is a massive jump in price if they've only got 50-60k I.e a 5-7 k jump

Have any of these 25k bling cars ever sold complete though, the only ones that do sell at that level are factory fresh with very few miles, the rest at that asking price seem to just get broken eventually.

Agreed mate! Admittedly mine has had a gearbox and turbo but never an engine build. Maintains good oil pressure and sounds fine but like everything I guess it won't last forever

i think the escort prices are crazy. i was thinking about buying a 600 bhp escort cos before i got the skyline but it was 28k ! hence ive realised skylines are cheaper 4x4 big bhp.

Think he means 10k is the difference between the cheapest and most expensive 500's for sale.

Yeah as people have pointed out I don't mean 500 starting price of 10k although about 4-5 years ago they weren't far off this.

Seems to be only a ford thing with this pricing structure.

I have thought about escorts Steve but not that convinced due to price, I would rather gave a concourse 3dr than an average escort for the sane price, same can't be said fir saphs compared to 3drs. So again why are they so elitist?

I dont know. Personally the only cossie I have ever aspired to is the 3dr, never really got the escort myself.

To be honest i think if you go out there and have a look at the range of cars available then all will become clear mate. Go and look at a few Ł9k-Ł12k cars, then a few Ł14k-Ł17k cars, then ones closer to Ł20k and so on. You will generally see a pattern and the prices will then justify themselves and this will answer your question. Of course you may get the odd overpriced car in the mix, just like you may get the odd under priced car thrown in there too.

And yes you always get the people saying 'its only an escort' or 'there not worth the money' blah blah blah. Usually said by people who want a mint escos of peanuts. It just wont happen. There clearly 'worth' the money which is why nice ones command good money.

I see what your saying though. If i had a set budget of say around Ł10k, i would rather have a very nice 3 door than a Ł10k escos. Horses for courses i suppose.

if youre going to go and look at 9k escorts then expect to do some work to them.

Its not going to be mint is it.

its like going to look at a 3k saff and not expecting any smoke or rust

but can you see the thing im getting at.

you expect 3-4k maybe 5k from a lower end saph or 3dr to a concourse.

i.e 4-5k average saph, 7-8 good/very good saph, 9-10k top end condition

3dr, 6-8k average conidtions, 8-10k good conidtion, 10-12k for a top end.

yet escort are a law untill themselves.

maybe its like paul has said, the ones that are high prices are major spec'd ones, and never actually acheive that price in one peice, hence there broken, and because of that pricing it scales everything up according? even though they dont achieve that price?

i.e i know its only a very very very select few that will pay over 20k for a escort.

i know we can all say, oh its amazing condition, i would definately pay that for it etc etc etc blah blah blah. but truth be told, you dont have the money, and even if you did, chances are you wouldnt buy it anyway,as you know what that sort of money would buy you in other car marques.

maybe its just me, but think have prices have escilated dramitaclly in the past 3 years for no apparent reason.

the escos seems to be the version that has the most money thrown at it with aftermarket bits, so I guess the owners of these cars just want to recover as much as they can with a high asking price.

There seem to be two types of these, the all show and no go shiney ones, which I doubt would even recover half of whats been spent on them if broken.

Then there are the over engineered ones which if they have the right bits on them are often worth far more in parts than the owner wants for the complete car, but given that its big bucks to begin with no one wants to take the gamble so the owner seems to end up pulling it apart themselves, and the parts sell rapidly and they usually end up very happy with the final pot of gold they recover.

I am surprised a breaker hasnt gone into this market, I suppose you can buy a lot of the low end cars to break with a pot of 25k, where as you only have one load of parts to sell if you buy a well stocked escos.

Escos are capable (4x4) and pretty (sandwich table on back). They are the only Cossie that is both.

I can't afford capable AND pretty so I went for capable only = Saff 4x4.
