Morning all,

Woke up and immediately got a lovely start to my day when I get a letter through saying I am being charged for not having enough money in my account for a payment. What happened was I stupidly gave the wrong account details and gave them the account I never use and hence it has no money in it. Now I know it is totally my own stupid fault and I should just take it on the chin, but what I find hard to swallow is how they've gone about it.

Basically they refused the payment as the account didn't have enough money and now they are charging me on top so they are making money out of me for nothing? It is not as if the payment went through and left my account negative or anything the payment was refused no money was paid out and they've sent me a letter saying they are going to take a fee as a result of me having no money...WTF?? I haven't enough money, they just block the payment and say right we are taking £15 for the privilege of doing nothing!

Have I got a leg to stand on or just take it on the chin pay up and shut up?

I would go in to the branch, and ask to see the manager, explain the situation , and make it clear that it is a one off (assuming you are not overdrawn every month!), and as such you would like the charge refunding as a gesture of goodwill, or you will take your business elsewhere... Be prepared to close both accounts there and then, and you will probably get a result.
