Anyone work on the railways?
I need to get my PTS card and i keep hitting brick walls on ways of getting it! I did have my Entry Permit for the London Underground but its now expired and will also need to renew that at some point.
Any advice on how to get on the course for the PTS card?
Cheers.

I work on Railway mate infact i am down at bridgen training tomorrow on a lul Track/Depot Accustomed course, i also have a PTS i have a few sponsers as i have gone contracting working for a few agencies
What work are you looking at doing mate? I do signalling can you not sign up with a agency and they will sponser you and put you on the course
Maybe worth calling Bridgen Training and asking if not i could ask tomorrow for you if you like?

Same as, i did have my Entry Permit, Depot/Track Accustomed while i was at TubeLines.
I'm looking on getting back into Electrical work, most of the jobs i've seen are on the overground and need the PTS card to get trackside.
I'll give Brigden a ring tomorrow mate

Think the only work you will get will be contractors.
But be quick, we are making between 1500-1800 redundant by April 2010.
So the market is going to be flooded with people with upto 30+ years service who have taken their voluntary severance and have every track qualification unders the sun (PTS, Lookout, COSS, PS, PICOP, etc).
Not to mention technical qualifications and IRSE licences, etc.

Yeah i rang them yesterday and got some costs on the courses, i gotta book myself in for the Network Rail medical at Express Medicals in Rotherhithe and then find a Co to sponsor me or in laymans terms, just book the damn course for me, i don't even have to be working for them.
The woman i spoke to gave me a contact name and number of a firm that could do this for me.
Its gonna be about Ł200 all in i think she said.
Plus the work i'd be doing is via a sub-contactors working on the dating of platforms and the stations electrics, nowt to do with rail side of things.

Paul, you can often sign on with an agent and that will be enough to class you as being sponsored to allow you to get on the PTS course, obviously you will have to cover the costs yourself.
Brian, where abouts are you going to be using Bridgen? is that West Horndon?
