Clio all day long, Just got a Ph1 172 for 2k, spent a few hundred quid freshening up the suspension and its a stonking little car. As for reliablity, make sure its been looked after and your sorted. If I were you Id get a 172 Cup. Will get a good example for 5k.

A Civic Type R, Megane RS(do they go for 5k?) and 306 gti6 are also good bets.

No he wouldn't if hes clever.
I know someone with one, minimal mods, so just over standard power, drives it all the time, still bloody quick, and its never let him down. Its faster and alot less common and boring than a clio.

Theres no way I'd get a clio over a pulsar, the only other car I'd go for would be a Type-R but only becuase a mates got one and they are pretty quick (not a touch on the pulsar though )

Thats my mates old car was a clean example thing with pulsars tinny feeling and as soft as shit but they are quick though

My brother had a pulsar years ago. (Boost was turned up slightly and it went pop!) Agreed they are pretty quick, quicker than a clio but I stand by my statement that they are very prone to breaking down. Clutch, gearbox etc. Also pretty expensive to fix when they do go wrong.

106 gti if it was me cos my old 1 was mint and never ever had any bother with it . and it went well aswell it would keep up with civic type r's clio's the lot and 9 times out of 10 it was them trying to keep up with me propper fast little cars

max power ha ha you FAIRY go out in your 306 gti6 and race a 106 gti and then see what you say let the cars do the talking . there is a lad just round the corner from my house with a 306 gti6 on throttle body's cammed the lot and it got wiped by gary tanzeys yellow 106 gti that was in fast car a few months back .

might have more miles but compared to the clio it wont start falling apart, clio is too low quality,the interior will just start creaking so much and put you off its just too flimsy, seats are too high! the radio is shite! and i mean what were they thinking with the tiny buttons? clio is way too 1 dimesional-good at handling but crap at everything else!

civic type r is built so much better.

My mate had a 54 clio and the exhaust fell of 3 times, Bought an aftermarket one in the end.

Ive had 4 type CTrs and never had one problem

Well i've owned quite a few cars mentioned above!

Clio 182 was a fantastic little car with plenty of poke but its build quality was pure and utter pissh. Nice options available if you buy the FF model.

The ek9 type r i had was unreal, once the "vtec kicked in yo" it put a smile on your face and constantly felt fun and was a joy to drive. This would be my choice of the bunch all day long.

I now own a ST170 which has good build quality and is modern enough to look the part driving around the town and have some nice creature comforts but lacks the speed of other hot hatches.

Also owned a gt4 which is below 5 grand if that could be an option, if you don't mind filling up at every petrol station. It also weighs in the region of 1600kg!
