Default processor probs :( **** UPDATED ****

ok soi get a pc off my brother who says it keeps switchin itself off after a short while, so i check the processor - same as mine, so we take the cpu out of mine in an even to try an eliminate the problem wether it be cpu or motherboard, alls going well, refited switch on , all my com does it spins up for approx 3 secs then switches back off i think , cpu funked

swapped my cpu back in , go and restart , exactly the same, so is the fault that that processor is fooking motherboards ?
is this possible ??

i think my board must now be fooked and i only bought it about 9 month ago

had to resort to the fookin laptop

any help please ???

Before you do that, you might want to check that the fan is making good contact with the CPU. Scrape the heatsink compound off the base of the fan and put a new heatsink pad on with some heatsink paste....
Worth a try....the contact area on an Athlon CPU is very small and I've seen similar things before

this sounds very much like the main pc powersupply - i had one do the same - ended up buying a new 10 quid power supply for the case from microdirect and all was fine - it would be ok until it tryed to do any work and loaded up the powersupply , so on first startup , it could reboot say 15-20 times if u left it to it before it finally got into windows, then u would launch something that made the cpu work for a few seconds and "click" reboot again.

should actually run WORSE like that unless youve got your PC crammed in the corner where it cant get any good airflow. as with the case on you have good airflow inside the case... take it off and theres no airflow... the case fans then become useless and you're relying 100% on the CPU fan...

I'm presuming the fan on the PSU's still working... try swapping the ram out.
