Default electric power steering

im selling an electric steering column from a 09 fiesta and have been asked how its wired up? does anyone know how they work as i havent a clue i presume it must have some sort of speed sensor or similar so the motor can help more with the steering at slower/parking speeds? anyone clued up on these?

As you say it takes a speed signal so it can vary the assistance, it can be retrofitted to cars and just use a box of tricks to decide how much power you want using just the motor, or using the(steering) ecu for it give a suitable square wave signal so it varies assistance.

Yes there is a ecu attached to them somewhere that does the working out, as to the assistance at the speed you are travelling, it also(I think) lessens the assistance the more the wheel is off centre(turned) at speed.

You can ditch the ecu and just wire the motor direct on some, then you will have full power all the time.
