What can you find out from a vin?

just wandering i have just bought a car havent got the reg just yet but got a vin number

The only way you can work out the reg from the vin is via the DVLA or the Police National computer.

Not sure if HPI can tell you history just from the vin.

That'd make sense 'cause surely the Vin is issued during manufacture and long before registration?
