Default mother-in-law just reversed into my cossie!

my mother in law just reversed straight into the front of my saff! was parked behind her and she didnt realise/look whatever! fook im mad, thing is she wants to go through her insurance which is fine and well but she's burst the front bumper, indicator, headlight bracket, grill and scuffed the leading edge of the bonnet, and managed to burst my new 500 intercooler!!!! so as you can tell im not happy. will it be a case of replacing the bits or will they want to put a standard intercooler back on it????

All deppends on your policy pal.

If you have decleared the mods as 500 cooler and stated the Manifacture then they should replace that, if its coverd under engine mods upto a certen amount then you need to produce some recipts of intercooler.

Engine/Bodywork are not the same, so they will replace them acording to your policy. btw, its a very long winded process.

But if you aint declared anything, then good luck as they could well void your insurance.

All deppends on the Amount of damage. And age of the car. Condition of the car.

I would agree though, its a though and i may happen as insurance cant be arsed anymore.

Id say they would write that off due to the price of new parts if they are avalible ect, obviously you may be able to buy it back but will be down as a cat d or c.

LOL.

i would try an get cash. and the insurance would put a standard rad back on.
bonnet, headlight bumper indicators grill. i would recon about Ł450-500 and the Ł200 to paint it all.
but thats if u do most of it urself and find decent bits.

the insurance will pay out for you to fix it with second hand parts, instead of writing it off.

OMG, not a nice thought.
How much does the repair have to be for them to declare write off?
Mine caught fire, done loom, ecu, snapped belts, melted tanks, melted injectors, melted bonnet soundproofing, doesnt look that bad tho, worried will now be written off!!!

repairs costing more than 40% of the vehicles 'trade' value result in it being a write off!

so you can safely say its a gonna :-(

I was told by an friend in the game that it would have to cover the value of the car before they right it off, could of been talking shit though.

Bullshit.
It goes off a percentage value against the car, Best thing you can hope is youve got a sky high agreed value so theres more chance of a repair than a write off,
If it gets written off buy it back cash in lieu and youve got your car and a fistful of cash to sort it with.

you have to be careful,as i had a similar thing happen to me ,but the saff bumper will have gone in to damage the grill and bounced back out resulting in the chassis legs being pulled in .[its worth measuring]
i had to have the car jigged at the time ,the only visible damage was a broken light and indicator, the damage cost over 3500 to put right
if it were mine i wouldnt let her claim off her in surance if it reulted in your car being wrote off,its just not right.

cheers james

just double checked with one of my mates who is a claims assessor, cars upto 5 years old it is 60% of vehicle value, any older and its 40%.. sometimes they waver it but with them trying to get as many cars off the road as possible its not looking good!

sorry dude.. looks like your gonna have to smash her face in and rob her purse!

What people have said about 40% value of the car is correct.

If the parts and labour charges come to more than 40% of the BOOK price, not pistonheads price.. TRADE PRICE which will be fuck all these days, they will write the car off!

They done the exact same thing with my mates R32 GTR skyline - he paid 7k for it and he crashed it and damaged the bonnet, wings, headlights,an alloy and various other little bits on the front and the insurance company written it off due to the fact that on their trade price system the car was worth nowhere near 7 grand.

He tried his absolute best and got all kinds of adverts from pistonheads and auto trader saved and emailed them to show thats how much it would cost for a replacement car, he never got the value of his car but i think they eventually paid out more than it was worth on trade.

Good luck mate is all i can say!

Wouldn't think this is a biggy mate, you can get prices to fix the car at your own garage - I did this years back.

You basically price up sourcing the parts second hand and get a reasonable estimate and if it is below the 40% then they should be fine but wont guarantee the work iirc.

If it is above 40% but you really want the car, then you can see if they will pay you 40% and put the rest in yourself to get it sorted.

As they wont purchased the car from you, it shouldn't be written of or go on hpi.

Only sticking point i can see is if the assessor wants to get the car off the road - sounds daft, but my sister had a CTR and the assessor really didn't want her to have it back, even when she said she could get it repaired and he admited it could be, he still said he wasn't keen on her having it back.

Was very odd, he then went as far as to raise the offer for the car to the maxium by putting the car down as A1 in order for her to make it to good to turn down.

The only reason I can think is that he or someone he would see the car go to would make a decent chunk out of breaking it?
