Hi Mike and all,
The great thing about the Tim Harvey car is that it has never been restored, it is as it finished it's last race, the current owner visited me from Australia 2 week's ago, genuine 500 race car's are worth a lot of money in Australia due too a very good historic race series for these and similar car's, where here in the UK the correct historic championship banned them, probably due to the owner's of other touring car's knowing they would be outpaced.
Most of the Grp"A" car's are known about these day's.

Thats a shame they were banned, the historical importance of these cars is surely fairly high, if they all end up in Australia and get banged up then that would be a shame, the cost to ship one back l imagine is fairly high. Are there many genuine 500 race cars left in the UK now?

There is probably 10-12 genuine car's still around in the UK, maybe a few hidden away but most are known, why ? do you want one ? it is way better than money in the bank, and they are a lot of fun.

no merc went a long long time ago, he bought the ford falcon after the merc, then bought the seat leon, now sold that, and just has the 3 toys at the moment.
one is proper awesome.
similar build costs to the merc. i.e budget "whatever it costs"

It's a Napier Lion bomber engine from the '20's, it is 24 litre, W12 and is similar to the engine in this,

It will be one of 3 left running in the world and the oldest.

This engine is about 525bhp with 1250lbs/ft torque but the version's that went in the world record breaking boat's, plane's and car's were 1350bhp, I will be ground running it on a special mobile rig with an 8' propeller.

Like Paul, I was very tempted to buy this when Martin dropped it down to 34k on racecarsdirect, but always had that nagging doubt about how much I could ever really use it.
It would have to be trailered everywhere, you would be scared of the muppets in shitters clouting it on trackdays, and up close these old girls have had a hard life and not that pretty if they have not been restored.
In the end I did not waste Martins time going to see it, just bought some wheels off him instead, but I also kind of regret it now prices have rocketed beyond my toys budget.
