Anybody ever had 1 removed, what sort of costs involved, I'm thinking of poss having mine removed and replaced next summer, or possibly a bigger garage so the whole garage and asbestos roof would ned to go

A double garage would be nice

Asbestos roof - anything from £200+

It depends on who you use, what grade asbestos it is.

There are cheap companies, but you never know where it ends up.
It depends how concious you are really.

I always get a professional company in, they leave you with a certificate, which I give to the customer which is proof if the council ask that its was done correctly and disposed of correctly.

As for the double gararge. It depends on what footings you need and what floor more then anything.

Ive just priced a double gararge for a customer, it needs a "raft" instead of a conventional footing. And ive put in a price of £20k (which is a good price) as hes a regualr customer.

yeh sorry dont be put off. It can be done far cheaper then that. £20k is basically starting with an empty area.

As above, a "slipped" tile could do the job.

I did mine myself last year...

I sought advice, and apparently it depends on the type of asbestos which is used. The panels are generaly a mixture of concrete and asbestos.

I got suited up with a good quality dust mask and disposable overalls, and then took the panels off whole. I then double lined it with plastic sheeting and sealed it with hazard tape. It might depend where you live, but I was able to dispose of it for free at my local tip. Just phone them up and ask if they have any room free in the asbestos bins... If they do, just rock up and unload... Job done. An asbestos company wanted £500 to do my garage which was all asbestos panels... I did it for less than £50

as said some tips will take it,most tbh as they dont want you dumping it down some country lane, more than likely will need wrapping up in tarpulin/plastic and taped up air tight,

I built a 6 car garage for around 12k. 15k with Electrics and niceties.

I dont mine on the cheap though and only employed a brickie, the rest I done myself.

You can do it cheaper but it depends on materials used etc etc. For example I paid nearly a grand for my electric roller door, however I could have probably got a second hand up and over for a couple of hundred squid off fleabay.

20k is steep for a double garage but thats the, or should i say one of the, downsides of living down south!

Dont be fooled with all this asbestos malarky mate. Take it down yourself and dont break it. Phone the council and find out which tip takes it, then arrange to take it in a van there. Job done! Dont get conned by those that will scare you into thinking it is dangerous!

Ring your council to see what facilities they have for asbestos disposal. Birmingham city council will come and collect it for FREE, any amount, as long as its double bagged and sealed properly.
We had a massive asbestos garage in the back garden, was falling down so had to be taken down. Only cost us the suits, masks, gloves etc and plenty of plastic to wrap it in.

They usually take your details as you can only take so much there. Might be enough though.

Echo the above, I am going to do mine myself when I get to that point.

Then take it round my parents and get the council to pick it up.

Solihull council dont do it for free, but I am gonna ring their contractor to see how much he will charge.
