Default Seat belt fine :(

Got caught not wearing a seat belt today, like a tit i didnt put it on owned up straight away but he proceeded to tell me they are now £60 i was like WTF! ill pay it anyway i as was in the wrong but £60!
Ive seen some of these poilce programs about car thieves ect and ive seen people get less of a fine for worse offenses wont surprise me if they start adding points soon for a seat belt offense.

Fair play for not moaning too much, but I can't see the sense in not wearing one tbh! But agree with you totally about scumbag getting pisstake small fines, also whatis the point in banning someone who hasn't got a licence or is banned already??!!!!

A seat belt fine is the only motoring offenec i have been done for.

Like yourself i always wear a belt but for some reason didn't put it on to drive 400yds and got caught (my house to homebase to get paint etc)

Was £30 when i got done.

The reason for the lower fines on the programs is due to the age of the program, this is a set limit, which next year DOES carry three points.

Surrey area were recently having a big purge on road safety, pulling people in for not wearing safety belts and using mobile phones !
They were let of with a warning after watching a short video, no fine, no points !
I was pulled in for my front number plate being to small, the lettering was o.k, just plate too small.
Where as other people just got warnings for more serious things.

I GOT A £60.00 FINE. no warning. Harsh.

I got caught a few weeks back in my lunch hour going to the garage up the road, was about 5 police cars in a side road pulling cars left right and centre!

I was told i could do it the usual way and just pay the £60
Or do an online test/course thing and that was £25

harsh times about the fine, i always put my belt on tho, few years ago i hand braked a scrap car in our yard into the corner of a container and felt how much you get thrown around and that was only about 25mph so wouldnt like to get hit or anything without a belt on now,

You get fined £60. You don't ever forget you were fined £60. You put your belt on in future which potentially could save your life.

Sorry remind me again, who is the winner in the long term? You!

£60 is that all.....

Going back 10+ years ago, a copper pulled me over for taking my seat belt off in a traffic jam.

He proceeded to tell me about the risks of going through the windscreen etc. I told him that was not going to happen as I do wear my seat belt, but sometimes take it off in slow moving traffic jams and that it would not be possible for me to go through the windscreen at <10mph etc.

He then put the fixed penalty book away and properly cautioned me and reported me for the offence. Due to my earnings I received a £150 fine in my absents at court!LOL - cunt !LOL

The reason they don't put heavy fine onto scumbag criminals is because the police know they don't have any money, so will not pay up!

The majority of motorists who get caught out have money and will be less likely to kick up a fuss, so they are the easy target!

It's not harsh at all, £1000 yes that would be harsh.

Unless you earn 50p per hour, then it'd be a bit of a choker

I can't afford to pay £60, but I always wear my seat belt, but its easy to do 34 in a 30 with 3 points and the same fine....

Number plate is £60 as well as I finally got busted for my German plate. Policeman asked if I knew why I had been stopped, of course I said no. As soon as he said bnumber plate and did I know it was illegal I just turned round and said "Look mate, you haven't come down in the last shower you know as well as I do it's illegal lets not muck about, fixed penalty?" They gave me the ticket and we had a bit of a laugh and he even shook my hand for being really honest about it all. Nice guy s to be fair. I put it on the car knowing full well is was moody so can't bitch now I have to pay a £60 fine for it

Not sure about anyone else, but i can't drive without one, I really can't, just feels odd.

60 quid is a stinger, but a short sharp lesson that could save your life.

I love the people who come out with 'the belt causes more injury' - forgetting that without it they would be outside the car in two or more peices.

To gain injury with a belt can only go to show just how hard the impact was and how unable the occupant was to keep themselves from moving around the compartment.

Very true, are cases like this, but must be a ratio of 1000:1 in favour of wearing on to be fair.

thats my point, in very very rare situation they may be a hinderance, but in the mass majority your going to be better of fixed in place.

what happened out of interest mate.

Samething happened to me, plate was 2cm too small and I got a £60 fine, no warning.

The police office had to measure the plate with a ruler AND call a traffic officer out to come double check it was too small.

Sooner they put points on for no seatbelt the better!! maybe the "invincible" youths who so often dont wear seatbelts will realise its easier to comply with the law when they only have 6 points to play with in first 2 years.

Too many people think they will never have an accident etc so why should they wear a belt, where as in reality its people with that kind of attitude who drive like dicks most of the time and are more likely to crash.

That's just the kind of thing that gives the police their bad name.....get and sort out some proper criminals instead of wasting time with petty things like that! Get your car or house broken into and no fucker will turn up for days......anything easy like small numberplates etc and they fuckin love it, they're not all bad but hell of alot of lazy, jobsworth, smug twats in the police sadly, most have never heard of common sense.
