Default porche cayanne turbo remap = better economy?

even doing a gentle cruise into town the other day, it managed 13.5 mpg on the a40 going on the way to earls court
the return trip on the a4 gave a staggeringly small 9.7 mpg

this is the 2006 (i think) 4.5 V8 twin turbo, not the later 4.8 V8 twin turbo and so doesn't have the more efficient (or so we've been lead to believe) direct injection

so the question is: how does a remap not only release 30 or more hp as well as giving 10% or so better economy?

and how much is this sort of fiddling going to cost him

My understanding is that with more power, you use less throtle, which balances out to using less fuel?....or something

Arent remaps around the £450 mark?

even pootling about at less than 2krpm it's quick enough, and then you put the foot down and it goes to the redline and within seconds, literally, you are going way way faster than you should be, so god knows what he's going to do with MORE power

but it cost us £38 in fuel to go to the show that was around a 25 mile round trip plus some general pootling about form his house to mine and back

i think he makes a loss of about 15p a mile when he uses it for work

i asked if he wanted to come to the rolling road day, but thensort of had second thoughts when he said it would probably cost in excess of £100 in fuel to get there and back

Has he not thought about selling up or would he lose too much on it by doing that?

There must be something wrong with it, my in laws have one and it will easily return between 19-22mpg when the mother in law drives it and even 15-17mpg when the father in law drives and does a bit more overtaking(he is not a slow driver). That is all on New Zealand roads which are much more twisty and require more slowing down and accelerating.

Sure if you cane the shit out of it the MPG drops like a stone but then it is a fucking huge rocket.

Get it in and have it checked for misfires(coils were replaced from early ones), and the Air Flow Meters are reading correctly.

the best he's had out of it was 17.9 mpg, so it's always been a bit poo

it's an aliminium engine to gas is a bit risky from all the peole he's spoken to, i think there have been 8 gas conversions and one of them ended up with a melted engine so not really work the risk

i'll tell him abou tthe afm and coil pack issues, he MIGHT just bring it to the rollers then

Dojj, I have a Cayenne Turbo (4 years) so can speak from genuine experience. Its should return more MPG that that. END OF.

You should see 20-22 on a run no worries and 14-15 round town easy.

If the coilpacks are fooked then it will missfire and you will feel it holding back massively. Not a difficult job either and the coilpacks are available for about £12 each genuine Porsche.

£16K in 2 years is bad yes. If your buying today they are amazing value for money.

Amazing and very capable cars that will surprisingly embarrass lots on the road and track!

you wont get more mpg on a petrol from a remap...

When was it last serviced?

Old oil is thick - blocked air filters choke the engine... etc etc

he is absolutly meticulous on the servicing, just like he is with all his cars, but i can vouch for the 9.7mpg as it was staring us in the fac when the bong for the low fuel sound started to bong to tell us we'd used up our allocation of £38's worth of fuel for that hour

but it absoulty flies, saw off one of them elese things when he booted it

but to be hinest though, he does drive it mainly around town so that might explain the shitty mileage, but i've told him abou the coil packs
