im pretty chuffed with that, 2 nights ago i waited for the ISS to come near the uk(followed on satscape) and spoke to those on board,,, downlink is 145.800mhz without doppler and i spoke via 145.200mhz uplink..
i should recive a qsl card from their ground crew sometime..pleased with that one

its just nicetys, hi hows you doin... blah blah.. wer do you wee LOL how do you get your poop to stay in the loo. etc(vacume loos aparently) but they are very busi and do have alot of radio operators calling them.

no mate no ctcss needed, its a std repeater 600kc shift but its more of a duplex, talk on 145.200 monitor on 600 above 145.800, good luck, i have it set up in my yeasu mem ch only used 20 watts and spoke to them radio 5 no problem.

145 mhz or 2 meters as its known, goes alot further on less wattage.

I work in telecomms so theres hundreds of radio hams in the company. Always going on about it and try to get me into it. Guy called Reg Wolley loves it all he goes on about. All that knowledge but when you mention a YB they all go blank......

I know a bit of stuff, but:

Its a different world, but pretty cool how far you can talk
I use an IC706MkIIg and a FT897D transciever, the antennas being a G2DYM trap dipole for 80 - 10 Metres, an inverted V dipole for 5Mhz a 3ele for 6m and a 9ele crossed yagi Tonna in a horizontal/vertical position.
Its a different world, but pretty cool how far you can talk
