Default Citroen ZX TD/306 D Turbo Tuning? lol

I know there must be some people on here who have done it so i thought i would ask.

We have just bought a Citroen ZX TD and im told it has the same engine as the 1.9TD pugs.

Basically we want to turn the boost and fuel up for the max power we can run on the standard top mount interwarmer and im trying to find out what the settings are.

Its an M plate car so i think it should have the bosch pump but im unsure atm what turbo it will have so advise on both pumps and turbos would be good.

I have been told 18, 20 and 22psi for the boost from 3 different people and none of them were sure of the turns needed on the pump lol.

Thanks in Advance may have a crack at it tonight

Pics of the pump?? Bosch one is easier to do, it has the boost compensator on the top of the pump.

My Bosch pump is set at 1.25 turns IN of the max fuel screw and 2.5 turns OUT of the boost compensator. Boosting 18psi. Any more and the charge temps soon get up and it gets sluggish. They come with a Garret T2, a KKK turbo and Im sure the later ones are something like a T15 for improved response. Check to make sure its boosting properly as standard first 13psi.

in 3rd at 3k rpm is where to check its boost.

Bosch pump is easy to do then. Happy days.

Ha ha ha, I love my ZX's. Comfy as fook and if you stick a set of half decent rubber on them they do actually go round corners ok. My last one had 15" Saxo VTS rims on and 195/50 15 T1-R's on and it surprised me. The one I have now has standard wheels on 185/60 14 Admiral ditch finders on. Its horrendous in the wet, spins up in 3rd with a knackered clutch

omg are we the three citroen ZX TD owners

i have the bosch pump too but want to fit a boost guage before i start messing with it just waiting on a real cheapie to turn up

how many dash bulbs u got out? i had a look at changing them bitch of a job as you can't get your hand behind to disconnect the speedo cable from the instrument panel, after some investigation seems you have to take the drivers side heat vent tubing out of the way then u can get to the cable, might have another go at the weekend.

gotta love the 50mpg though

Im running a ZX engine in my pug expert van , at the moment its running 1 bar 14.7psi , im also using the larger van intercooler and have removed the large heavy rear exhaust box and run a 2 1/2 inch pipe to the rear. Im running the lucas pump and standard injectors & will be keeping this boost for relibilty but fettling the pump for a finer tune and trying to get a balance of performance and smoke. When pressing on now the van lacks brakes and suspension LOL im also going to make some shorter steel boost pipes this should see more torque and spool up time.

Omg. I never thought I'd see a Citroen ZX appreciation thread on PF. I had one as my first car, wrote it off, and then bought another one straight away. Pretty underrated cars, all the body roll in the world but more grip than you'd imagine and comfy as you like. Later I had a BX Turbodiesel, which was more of the same - only weighed around 900kg so was pretty nimble and, while I could never call it quick, it wasn't slow either!

was looking at the airfilter arrangement today and that looks horribly restrictive and also mounted very low
sure there is free power there

no rotten strut tops or dash bulbs out here

the floor however isnt as solid, and only one rear caliper works

RE the airbox, mine has been removed, hacked the solid plastic pipe off just before the bend and rammed a filter on. It didnt seem to spool up as fast when I first did it but after hacking the pipe I had crossed the point of no return so have had to live with it. Also dont go hurtling through puddles if you put a filter on it, I forgot, it sucked in loads of water and it was belching masses of white smoke for about 1/4 mile and was flat as a fart.

i confirmed during my lunch hour mines completley standard (bosch pump still has tamper proof seal)
So this weekend i will be rigging up a boost gauge then having a play with the pump

the airbox i was wondering if one from another car might work as there is plenty room on the inner wing on that side to mount something its just the pipe work.
there are induction kits on ebay cheap for the petrol models maybe they can be modded but this is pikey modding so need something cheaper or free

and my strut tops look rust free only one small patch of rust on the floor where the underseal has flaked off and even thats only surface rust.
has anyone tried pug 205 wheels on a ZX? i think they will fit

Wanted to put a front mount on mine but where the intercooler mounts to the inlet would be a problem. Any ideas?? I have a Focus TD cooler, which is a common one to use Im told, and a one from a Megane 225 Trophy.

Out of curiosity.... What does the tamper seal look like??

As mine is running 17psi.... And I have no idea if the Pump has been tweaked?

ZX XUD common oil leaks are,
Leaking vac pump o rings, cam cover loose, cam cover breather pipe split.

Also when doing dash bulbs, disconnect speedo cable from inside engine bay and push cable through once youve loosened speedo head, much easier than trying to undo from back of head.

i dont know about these but i did a set of heater plugs on a xantia (assuming same engine) and they were a fucking pain in the arse, the worst bit was tryign to get the 8m nut on the new one behind the injector pump, my arms are hurtign from tryign to twist my hand to do it

good tips still waiting for the rain to stop so i can do my dash bulbs but will try that method out
is there anyway to check the bulkhead for rust do they rust honest if you know what i mean
only issue i have is a badly aligned drivers door might have had a bump there at some point but i was looking at the hinges and it looks tricky to adjust anyone done them before?

You cannot adjust the door hinges, there is a small screw in each hinge to take any wear play out. If door has strained on hinges use weight either top or botton to strain back!!!

Oh and you maybe lucky when doing the dash bulbs, some of them had electronic speedo drives so no cable.

Bulkheads dont normally rust, but remove wiper scuttle panal and check the main wiring connector on the drivers side bulkhead panal as these are prone for corrosion in the connectors! Make sure the water drains are clear aswell, each side.

yeah mine has mechanical speedo so will try the disconnect engine end to sort them bulbs

was looking at hinges today and the top hinge where it bolts inside the door has two 10mm studs with nuts was wondering if i loosen them it would give me some adjustment i only need to move it a couple of mm its not that far out, with the door closed its the top left corner that needs to come down.

need to remove scuttle panel to run boost guage piping so will give it a clean up then and check the drain holes too
