Default Renault 5 turbo

Swapped my 205 gti turbo for one last night.

Goes well alright seems to be running about 12psi, is this std boost?

Its got an incar boost controller that doesnt seem to do anything. If i hook it up what kinda boost can i get without touching the fueling side of things?

If i do have to touch the fueling then how do you go about it? Take you need to get the carb setup by a specialist?

Probable wont keep it long, gone through three cars in as many months, as i just cant find something i want to keep long term and kinda like having a different car every month.

Any more than 12psi & carb will need probably need tweaking. Get a wideband hooked up to see whats happening with the fuelling or it will end up in tears

Assuming the motor is standard & running well, its probably around 140-150hp @ flywheel.

do you know what the max boost the std turbo can handle is, and what power that gives?

They run about 7-8psi as standard, 14psi will lay the OE guage flat against the dash and give roughly 150@fly,17psi normally makes around 170@fly but thats with rejetting and it'll be a miracle if the OE cooler doesnt blow apart before you get there. I have seen a standard turbo run at 20psi but they are far from efficient at those levels. The reason R5's have such a bad rep for blowing up is that everybody wants to keep turning the boost up for some strange reason....even if they dont have supporting mods. Unless you fancy rebuilding it i'd just check the fuelling and if its ok leave it well alone, lol.

Its got a gttuning double capacity intercooler, there is reciepts for a boost controller and rejet kit. But i have no idea if these are still fitted.

There is also a letter from santapod saying it was the fastest car on the day pulling a 12 somethin qtr! I think that must have been on another engine though as it is no way that fast now

As your a bit unsure as to what has/hasn't been done to it, go and have it checked over and set up properly mate. They are good little engines 'IF' they are set up properly and run well within their limits.

I use to love mine , I had a red one with polished phase 1 clio 16v rims they can be abit tempramental if messed about with too much by people who are unsure of what there doing , I have a m8 whos been bang into these for years (BD AUTOSPORTS) He's had 300 bhp plus out of his and that makes for a very fast little car !! He also does or did as i havent spoken to him in a while do private work on them..
Run approx 18psi & you will have plenty of fun an upto about 90 not much will keep up thats ruffly 165 /170 bhp & thats quick in something made out of recycled coke cans lol
Theres loads of gd info & advise to be had on the RTOC website.. get it checked ova an running a nice amount of boost and you will love it

Enjoy m8

Is your mate localish to me ? Need someone to look it over and make sure its spot on.

Going to get rid of it soon though as i miss my big comfy cars now ive had a BMW. It drives great though and is so much fun through the little back roads near me just lacks a bit of class though lol

Yea send it over and i might give him a bell. Damo is going to check it over for me but id rather have someone who knows them inside out.

Yea it looks alright could do with tidying up really as there is a few scratches and little dents. Drives spot on though feels really planted and tight.
