What's the best one to get?

Ideally i'd like to get an M-Sport with a manual box.

I've never understood the randomness of BMW's model range, E34, E30, E60? I mean what's all that about!?

Is the M-Sport the equivalent to say Fords Ghia or Ghia-X model?

The E-numbers (Or F as the latest 7-Series is) are the chassis code/model designation.

The M-Sport is the "sports" model, as opposed to the SE version of the same model, which would be more like the "luxury" version.

IE/ a 530d M-Sport would be a 530d with the M-Sport body styling, wheels, suspension etc.

So am i right in saying that the SE and M-Sport are practically the same with regard to the creature comforts just that the latter is more sporty?

Hmmmm luxury or Sporty? lol

Ford use the same thing.. its just not common knowledge...

A transit can be a v187 for example... the don't call them mk4 escorts or large turbo escort turbos inside Ford

M-Sport will have more sportier styling, and I think different suspension as the E60 (latest shape) 5 series M-Sports I've been in always seem to ride more harsh than the SE (don't know if this is largely down to the 18s they have but it is more harsh than a SE edition 5 series). I'd personally have an M Sport with a manual box..BMW manual boxes are very good.

Brother in law has an 02 530d se for sale done 115k or so for £5k if your interested?

I love the 5 series, I still have an 01 E39 520se and use it as and when and mainly as, a, leave it at the pub car. Not fast by any accounts but everything works after 146k miles.

I still love the E34 sports and M's. Am I getting old before my time? Hang on a tick, I'm ......

Bm's from new, are buy the chassis and pay for the other extra's.

I bought an X5 V8, then a derv, got fucked off with that as it was a friday car chopped it for a 630 cab and now have an M6 (as well as the babie 520).

I know this is passion- ford but who cares. I couldn't drive a mk1 rs2k or mexico everyday and do huge mileage!

Benn's suggestion of a 540? They sound awesome

Not fancy a 3 series?

E39 530d is a good car though for sure. Many are spec'd quite well.

Nah, the 3 series' seem to hold their value to much + you get more for your monies with a 5 series.
