Default 24v down on power

can anyone help! i am absolutely gutted.
i had a 24v boa engine rebuilt about 2 years ago for my xr4i. usuall thing, hone, new rings, new bearings, lightened, balanced, bluprinted, a bit of gas flowing, bob cams 440cc injectors (new) emerald ecu and a new loom.
this sat around for a long time as the car got put on the back burner due to other projects. with this in mind me and my mate fitted it into his mk2 cortina to replace hi stock 24v and get some use out of it.
fitted it all in and wired it up, took it to emerald for mapping, a stonking 170 hp, mmmmmmm
can timing found to be a mile out, took it back for another go on the rollers, a much healthier 177hp mmmmm!
we have checked the cam timing over and over and it is spot on. the reputable engine builder who did the work reckons the piston rings are stuck in the pistons because i left it standing around, WTF!! a compression test is good and a leakdown test is also good
has anyone got ant ideas before we pull it out and put it in a skip??
let this be a lesson, when you have engine work done find out what sort of comeback you have and don't pay cash, get a receipt so you can prove you had the work done if you want to take it further.
still it's his loss, between us we will need 2 ford v8's, a pinto, a yb cosworth and a crossflow, that's without our mates cars who we would have reckomended to him

it was at the flywheel! as for mapping i can only assume that dave walker at emerald knows what he is doing! he seems to know his stuff and was highly recomended by everyone who has had dealings with him

is this in practical performance car mag this month in dave walkers article?
he states that after the first time in that ye had early boa cam gears on the late bob cam shafts and he could not time it properly (to be very picky im sure he was actually getting the early boa cams and the later, better, bob cams mixed up as he said the earlier ones are better, a negligble point really cos no doubt he is top class at his job)

as for the problem i cant say, if your compreesion and leakdown tests are checked out and passed then maybe the engine builer is not at fault so i wouldnt go cursing his name just yet.
there was a similar spec lime green mk1 capri in classic ford not so long which was making 270bhp.
do you have enough fuel?
is it wired 100%?
there are many things that could be holding it back and no doubt its something stupid.
a good indication of a properly running 24v is that it should be running and revving silky smooth..

you are very observant, it was the engine in the article and he did get the cams muddled up.
my main gripe with the engine builder is the complete lack of intrest in the problem, all he has to say is that he did not assemble the motor and the guy who did works for himself. i will add the the guy who built it has tried to help us out as much as he can but to no avail. at the end of the day i don't give a flying f**k who assembled it, i took it to an engine shop and they should be answerable.
you mention fueling! it all seems to be correct according to dave, as is the wiring.
it just seems that something is amiss, what it is we don't know, i was just wondering if someone has had a similar problem and could say have you checked...............? then we would call each other a pair of twats, fix it and have loads of horses!!

Was it mapped as installed now, or mapped in the 4i

Has it got the same exhaust manifolds/intakes etc on it?

the motor never ran in the sierra, it is running the castiron manifolds at the moment and a stainless 2 into 1 system with one box on it. and the cams weren't actually mixed up, the description was wrong, boa engine and bob cams

when i fitted some kent cams to my engine it made it SHOCKINGLY BAD/SLOW.

refitted std and back to normal.

so that does highlight to me that cams can cause a massive difference on a 24v and is an area worth investigating
