brown horizontal slot parallel with green jack on back of case is the agp slot, fill that with some fandango gfx card, ive no idea there

ram slot is the vertical one underneath the red/yellow/black power cables, there is a bank used and a bank free so go fill it http://www.crucial.com/uk/ for ram

if you just want to play some games and not spend a wedge

i would advise getting a radeon 9600 XT

or same as i have radeon 9800 pro

both are older cards now so can be bought for good money

circa 100-130 £££

get another 256mb ram also

Tiff,

First off stop being a tight twat!!! That PC you have is a piece of junk!!!

Personally I would do the following.........

Scrap the whole fooking thing and build a proper matched specification. If you havent the spare brass to do that, then do the following....

Increase your RAM to a MINIMUM of 512mb, prefferably 1GB.
Buy either a x800PRO or X800XT graphics card or the Nvidia equivalent

Tiff, on the back of your pc will be a serial number, if you enter this into compaqs website it will tell you exactly what hardware is in your machine, so u jot down the memory type and and just order the same.

Any current agp card will be ok in your system, no point spending a lot on one, i would personally get a pny Geforce 5700 for £50 and your machine should take ddr 2100 ram, add another stick of 512mb crucial ram for £50 and it means your pc will play most games, maybe not at 700bhp spec but will still be ok and you aint shelling out big style either. Then if you get hooked on the gaming as rudey said a new machine will be in order.

Tiff, I say as you don't know what type of games you like and if you'll enjoy them.

Go into your local Game shop. Find the PC games. They always have deals on their cheaper games. Most if not all will easily run on your PC. You could get 3 for just £10. Pick any 3, chances are they will be good if they are still being made.

Then choose what type of games you'd like more of and ask us. I just can't see the point in spending any large wedge if you may not even get on with games on a PC. Many people prefer to stick to a PS2 or XBOX etc.

You will probably need to enter the bios, and change the primary display from the onboard s3 card to the agp slot, if there's no option in the bios, then there will possibly be a jumper setting on the motherboard for this.

This is where the motherboard manual will be handy if you have one

BTW... something you "experts" failed to ask was what type of monitor CRT or TFT Tiff had and what resolution it would enable him to go up to if he had the choice.

Unfortunately for Tiff he has a 1024 limited TFT screen, so with that in mind he might as well go for a couple of generations behind GFX card and see how he gets on. He may not get Pixel shader version 3 or what ever, but then does he really know what that means! roflol

I'm also sure Tiff doesnt mind whether or not he has x8 Anti-Aliasing or triple buffering on his porn pics!

Personally I think all PC's from Currys, Dixons and PC world should carry a health warning, as i would ask you whether you would take your car for tuning at IMA Motorsport.

They used to be good, well ages ago. In the days of the Pentium 2/3. I even did tech support for them and realised how things change.
