could you please clear up a little argument we are having on a two or more line road the lane nearest the middle is the outside is the out side and nearest the kerb is the inside or is it the other way around please help as i need the wifes to shut up

UK - Far right hand lane is the fast lane. Outside lane.
UK - Middle of both on a 3 way carriage way is the middle lane
Uk - Far left hand lane is the slow lane. Inside lane.
NOT UK - Far left hand lane is the fast lane. Outside lane
NOT UK - Middle lane is middle lane.
NOT UK - Far right hand lane is slow lane. Inside lane
So all in all.
Inside is closest to the curb. Outside lane is closest to the center of the carriageway

Just to be a grumpy old man cos I'm in a pedantic mood, there is no "fast" or "slow" lane.
You should be in the left hand lane unless you are overtaking. Middle and right hand lanes are overtaking lanes.
