Default any houseold leccys in here?

I have a question for ya

my m8 is doing his bathroom out and wants to put a dimmer in his bathroom, easy peasy so far!
BUT the switch also controls the fan which in an obvious no no, so is there a way using a relay for example that the whole lot can be controlled off one switch ,I'm sure even with it dimmed you could run a feed off the positive output to a relay then run the fan through the other side of the relay

Anyone any Ideas I have tried round the net but it just brings up the same question with lots of arguments about it on diy forums lol

Used to be able to get dimmers that had a normally switched output and a dimmed one in the same module

I have one to remove next week as they are going low energy and its no use,if its still functional he can have it.

it will need an additional conductor/cable run to the fan as a switchwire

The easiest way would be to wire supply -> switch, then switched live parallelled to fan and dimmer live, then common the neutrals.....

surely that wouldn't work as it would dim the fan which you can't do
or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Well you could dim the fan, depending on whether it's brushed or not...

But this is what should work...

Check with a ticketed sparky first!

Square/triangle thing is a non-switched dimmer
