Default Ag focus v ...

Just wondering how ag focus would compare to a british touring car, in lap times or even like a aussie v8 supercar , if it could lap as fast or even faster than any of these to cars!! ,

AG car is a fair bit faster than the current BTCC cars.

To compare;

AG done a 50.???s lap of knockhill, the fastes qualifying time for the BTCC cars at knockhill this year was Jason Plato 53.370s

good question. When at national day I was thinking the same but between a focus wrc in tarmac spec and a focus btcc. Any ideas? I thought the wrc car due to the higher torque figure? Sorry for high jacking the thread

They are both set up and designed towards what the enviroment is that they race in, Therefore would be a bit unfair for both to race on a track or both to race on a rally stage.

I would imagine they would both win in there own arenas.

Around Donnington I was thinking, and from a rolling start.

Would love to see Andy out in the northern sports and saloons championship or similar to see how he does against some other space framed specials, a ex dtm astra of ric wood and some other really quick stuff !!

a 1.09 on toyo 888's, put him on his normal tyres and knock a second off probaby, so really there is atleast 3 seconds in it,

silly question really when ag has 500bhp more

sorry i was comparing to touring cars !

i think the v8 cars have 600hp and i dont think they would live with it neither,

there was a 600hp falcon raced by greg at xsport racing again rod birley in a 500bhp escort and it was good racing all the time, very close but rod won most the time and won the championship for the years he raced against it,

i think andrews would be quicker than rods, so quicker than them cars

Do you think Plato would be significantly quicker in it than Andy is then?

TBH I dont think Andy is far off the pace at all, I think he is a genuinely quick driver, so I dont see that there is a huge amount of room for improvement driver wise TBH

Not saying I think Andy is as good as Plato, but I dont think there is as much in it as your comment implies.

To be within 3 seconds of Ag's focus in a 300bhp FWD car (albeit a btcc) is still impressive imo! As chip says andy can pedal the car very very well, and as much as touring cars are a no compromise car andy's focus is hardly a budget build either Just shows what can be done when a car is in the right hands and well setup.....thing is there's only so much speed you can carry through corners without proper downforce aids etc.

Some info from Andy about how his laptimes have changed going from 680bhp to 800bhp would be interesting reading, assuming nothing else has changed on the car.

Do you have any such figures Andy that are genuinely representative of the difference its made?

Extra 120bhp in a touring car of course would make a massive difference as they are so slow in a straight line (relatively!) to begin with, so more room for improvement.

I'm very suprised its that close i must admit- I spose they are quite short tracks.
shows how impressive the btcc cars are that with 'only' around 300bhp they can carry sufficient speed through the corners to be that quick!

Therein lies a Top Gear challenge............

Lap of the TG track, one BTCC car driven by whoever, Plato seems to be the popular choice, and AG in the Focus.

Anyone got the connections to get this suggested. Wold be a good watch.

Even then im not sure how interesting it would really be.

The headline of:
4wd non road legal race car with 800bhp is slightly quicker than 300bhp fwd non road legal race car, is kind of an obvious one surely?

Dont get me wrong, I personally would like to see it, I just dont think many other people would, as its hardly going to unveil anything that isnt obvious?

Arguably all it would end up showing up, is that Andy's car isnt really as much quicker on the track as on paper it looks like it should be.
