Default iPhone probs!

Now this may be pure coincidence or not, but I hope it is.

Yesterday I received the FM transmitter for my iphone that I ordered through ebay, lets me listen to all my music in car. Tried it last night, working great.

I then updated my phone to the latest OS (forget what specific number it is) last night and let it fully charge via USB port.

Used the FM transmitter on the way into work, plugged into the power socket in the car. I noticed when I got to my work for some reason my phone had re-set to midnight or thereabouts on the 1st January 1970.

I noticed the phone felt hotter than normal today, charge dropped really quickly so I put it on to charge on way home. Still wouldn't start up once home so plugged it into wall socket and left for 1hr, no charge yet.

Luckily still had time to get into O2 shop and it's now away for repair (7-10 days, feel like I've lost my arm!).

Firstly has anyone had the same type of problem?

And would it perhaps be something to do with FM transmitter, OS update or a completely unconnected problem?

I can't see how the transmitter can damage anything as it's just reading the signal sent out by the phone. Just as well they come with an excellent warranty. May even get a nice shiny new one out of it!

Apple Store's in Glasgow 40 miles away..

Dan, thats what I thought but I was also charging it at the same time? And its funny how the charging problem started after that.

There was a lot of people suffering the same problem when upgrading to 3.0. Loads of iPhones got sent back. Maybe yours just didn't agree with the 3.1.2 FW?

I've not had any bother with mine with the latest o/s.
I use an iTrip fm transmitter and even thought it displays the pop up to say it's not an approved apple device it works fine.

Does your fm transmitter plug into the headfone jack or the bottom multiplug like mine. (where you also connect the power cord) If it's the multiplug at the bottom, could the fm transmitter have damaged or shorted any of the contacts?
just a thought..

Yeh it's in to the multiplug - good thinking maybe has shorted one of the contacts.

I'm scared now to use that when I get it back.

Yeah, I wouldn't use it again! Didn't realise it charged it too. What make is it? Maybe worth buying one from the apple store (if they sell them) that way you've at least got some comeback if it fucks up again.

I got my iPhone back on Thursday, not impressed with their customer service though.

9am on Monday I got a text from O2 to say the phone was repaired and on the way back to the shop. Fair enough I thought, might hear in the next day or two. Got to Wednesday and I decided to phone the shop. Never could get an answer. About 10 times I tried when finally they answered it on Thursday afternoon and my phone was in the shop. Don't know how long it had been ready!

My FM transmitter was off ebay but thats going in the bin...
