Does the diesel Pump use a lot of battery energy?

As it starts and drives on a fully charged battery... for about 2 miles then has a flat battery... Don't have a multimeter to hand to check.

Would this be the symptoms of a duff battery/ Lack of charging?

BTW Just had a new Diesel Pump fitted

 

It's odd as if it has enough power to spin engine to start it, can't see why it would run out after 2 miles even without charger working, but obviously this needs checking first.
