Yeah, discretionary ban up to 97 but over 100 it's an automatic ban (or it's supposed to be) and could also be a fairly big fine

Depends on the report the cops submit and what sort of picture the report paints to the procurator fiscal... I got caught doing an average of 113mph in a 70 limit and got a 3 month ban and 400quid fine but the report on me was very light, no bad points (bright dry day, rural motorway, brand new car, light traffic, no swerving around etc) which might have been something to do with the length of ban I got.

do you employ people if so tell them they will be unemployed too if you lose your license

PassionFord Post Whore!!
You need to be very careful with that as a line of defence/excuse - the authorities attitude is hardening to the point that "if your licence is so important to you, why are you putting it at risk like this?"
I'd guess the ban is inevitable and you just want to minimise the length, so you need to be respectful and apologetic, "moment of madness", "don't know what came over me", "ran through it in my mind a million times since and just can't explain why I drove in such an uncharacteristic way", etc etc

A bit different too your situation but still a ban I have my mates Aprillia in my back yard with a SNAPPED alloy frame. He was knocked off it by a car who pulled out on him and had to kept alive by the police untill the ambulance arrived.Apparently he overtook an off duty officer at at about 60 and a bus < both the drivers have made a statement. The daft bastard blew 105 when he came around in the ambulance and now is waiting for blood test results AND still thinks he may get away with it.They are now trying to prosicute for dangerous driving which is a jail term alone.
In your defence being self employed one of my mates was prosicuted for dangerous driving and jailed for over taking an off duty copper but kept his liciense with 12 points on it(being self employed driving needed). At the moment he is into 40k in his 550 Sapphire so his insurance must be imense.Usless post I suppose

the trainer in our place said he was in a hurry as he had the shits and needed to get to a toilet pretty quick as he was touching cloth, he got caught at 118 mph , the prosecution gave him a £400 fine and 6 points

20K+ Super Poster.
Not 100% sure if the same now, but when I was done for 151 in a 70 I got a 6 month ban, and £800 fine in 1986, the magistrate said he would like a longer ban but did not have the power to impose it for a first ban.
I think the bum lube may come in handy or you might be someones "wife" in prison!!

1st of all those saying over 100 is an auto ban, what?
thats crap, a fair few have walked out of court without bullshiting with there licence, me included for 105 on the a12
2nd the hard thing is to say what you'll get as courts variy widely from one to the other

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
30mph over the limit is widely understood to carry a ban of some sort as dojj said. However i don't see there being a hard rule on it as this thread shows. Its all down to the judge on the day. I know people who have had a short ban and a maximum fine for 120mph then there was a case of a driver on the A1 at 2am doing 105 iirc that got the book thrown at him and again i know people who have just been given maximum fine and points for worse. The copper that caught you will just submit his report and any evidence, its all down to the judge then. I'd be preparing myself for a ban of some sort if i was in your position tbh.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
A friend of mine who's a VW sales rep got clocked at 120mph, went to court etc and only got a month's ban + fine. First offence bar an SP30. His boss attended court with him as well which helped.

I got stopped between J16 and 15, going southbound at 2am. 104.7mph over 3 miles. Unmarked gray 5 series.
Took me 4 months to get to Stoke mags. I pleaded guilty in mitigation. Said I had been driving 10 years, no prev convictions, no other cars to judge speed against. Was a clear, dry night, not putting anyone in specific danger
Whilst I admitted I had broken the speed limit, it was a one time offence and I had learnt from the whole process of being treated like a criminal that it wouldnt be wise to do so again. A lenghthy ban would have put a strain on my relationship with my missus with her living far away and having to rely on the car for family days out, shopping for food etc etc.
I got a 28 day ban and £250 fine
Not bad really

back in 1998 i got done for average of 104mph and got 6 points and a 80quid fine - was a poor student at the time and was my first offence.
just hope you dont get charged with dangerous driving as that is a 12 month ban.
you could get charged with careless driving or simply hit with a sppeding conviction but either way a ban seems likely.
