Default Comparing a zetec swap

Putting a 2 litre zetec swap in a mk4 Escort, how does the performance compare?

Is it much of a weapon or really more about the smoothness of the drive and reliability?

Has anyone got any performance timed figures or acceleration vids? What kind of things have you suprised on the open road?

Nothing at the moment lol but the car is a 1.4

Im just interested to know how the drive is with a Zetec and what kind of metal it would match or keep up with in stock trim.

Say for example, Saxo VTS ? or is it more VTR in comparison?

lol im guessing you mean the 136 bhp model from the mondeo?

if so:

bhp: 136
torque 180
0-60: 9.5

(thats in a mondeo)

at the end of the day as tandard its a slow engine im afraid mates just put one in his escort to replace the 1.8, theres not much of a difference just a bit more torque and its a bit smoother.

you wont be keeping with vts's there really light with a light engine. it'l be nippy enough but nothing exciting. throttle bodies will see upto around 160bhp...but why not get an rs2000 engine which is 150bhp standard...theres lots of better engines that can go in

Nah wouldnt touch the RS 2000 engine. Not enough potential compared to a turbo CVH unit or Zetec.

Might be wrong but i dont think theyd be too much weight difference between the Escort mk4 and a VTS? Both under a tonne. Sure the Escorts are around 850kg's are they not?

escorts tip the scales at just under a tonne about 980 is the book figure for a rst so i spose a basic model will be around 950ish.
The 2litre zetec is a great mod for the mk4 imo and even in standard form on half decent management, a 4-2-1 exhuast and decent inlet will see 150bhp with bags of torque compared to wot any 1600 n/a cvh will ever offer.
That sort of power/torque will see you comfortably stay with a vts.
don't forget the mk5/6 that are easier to do the 2litre conversion on have approx 200kg more weight to them which makes a big difference.

i "think" mk6's way nearer 1600...but might be wrong...sounds very heavy.

either way n/a your not gonna get much out of it without BIG money...as i said throttle bodoies with a decent exhaust etc will see around 160bhp you might get 180 with alot of internal tinkering and a bit of nitrous.

now if you turbo it your playing with a hole different kettle of fish

and as to your comment about RS2k...why is there not as much potential? certainly more (imo especialy to the Ł) than a 2.0 mondy...galaxy bottom end on ITB's your looking at over 200bhp and BAGS of torque...but its a heavy lump!

My old mk3 escort which was a bog std 2.0 silvertop from a mondeo with the std exhaust manifold and ashley 3i system and an air filter std ecu and injectors/throttle body with an rst gearbox at brunters did 7.69 0 to 60.
It was plenty of fun to drive changed the box after a while and it felt quicker with a std 3i box but cant back that up with figures to prove it either way.

Would i do it again hell yes im in the process now of putting a blacktop zetec with throttle bodies into a mk3 just to have a fun car. Just as a thought if your thinking af using a blacktop into a mk4 you will have to find the correct way to make an engine mount as 1 of the cambelt idle pully's will foul your inner wing mount its lower on the mk3 so it fits without issues.

Like i say im not planning anything just yet as iv just spent a lot getting the car solid body wise but the engine is next on the future list.

Just not sure what direction to take whether stock sliver top will be fun enough in pretty much standard drop in the e/bay trim..
