Default Now we have "detailing" what's next????

Every now and again (IMO) car enthuisiasts go through phases, probably first it was engine mods, max power styling, then wacky ICE systems with PS2's etc, now we have glorified valeting or "detailing" if thats what you want to call it, so what's the next phase likely to be???
Predictions???? (Yes I'm bored)

re-read it. he's talking about what people go through themselves and not engine modding in general

Ive always thought that - its just the job valeters used to do years ago, then they got lazy, so a newer breed of valeter turns up, does a full proper mint valet like we used to get, charges a fortune and calls it fooking 'detailing' what a load of bollocks.

Being on the other sid eof the world I can offer some objective insigh there I hope.

You lot are so into the underbody resto. No one does that crap over here. No one powder coats anything, if they take sometihng off it gets sprayed with some flat black spray paint (rattle can?).

Engine dressup seems to be the norm there as well. You go through colour phases. Never saw a black cossie cam cover until recently. Not really a phase I guess, but you don't mess about.

I can say that a recent "phase" I've noticed is using Ford rims on Ford cars. Like some nice Escos wheels on a Saff. About the only aftermarket company that gets money is Comp and TSW. Over here if it's not 22+ and chrome...

Dash flocking. Where the hell did that come from? NO ONE does that over here. I can't find anyone that even knows what I talking about when talking to the trades.

Anit-lag, launch control. That might be the hint. What's next? I think a lot of technology will make it into older cars. Single din satnav, megasquirt, AL, LC, are indicators. Maybe we'll see more full car rewires with can bus or with the new low voltage systems. The wiring in our cars is getting on in age.

that i disagree with.no "valeter" ever has done what detailers do now.

back then autoglyms mega dust srp was the bollox and swirls in paint were acceptable and just shiney was the way to be.now days paint correction is the difference and the depth paint gets from new products is immense

Agreed, with foam lances and two bucket washing to avoid putting swirls into paint, to complete touchless washing. And who 3 years ago had heard of a claybar?

I've been using a claybar since 1991. My old retired paint claybars are used for the glass after that. The glass ones get retired to the wheels.

Then this year I went 8 months not washing my Jag. Just sorta got sidetracked working on my cossie & merkur instead of detailing for hours on a Saturday.
