I think Dave worships the spotlight as it keeps him more legally employed doing appearances & writing books etc. Also he has never claimed to be a real hardman but as has already been mentioned it's more the people he has connections with that are the nutters. Yes Courtney is a bit of a showman but he definitely knows some naughty people.

Make no mistake: I am certain that someone like Carlton Leach is a hard man with character, same goes for McLean and Shaw. Just look at the look in Shaw's eyes even now he's getting on in age: proper fighting spirit.

I've read McLean's book and although he seems like a fairly genuine bloke, I can't get over the impression that it's flavoured with a bit of cockney cockyness..so I was wondering what you all thought.

With regards to Courtney: well Camelot is a joke, all the walls covered in fake weaponry is something for a 13-year old and knowing lots of nutters doesn't make you a hardman now does it?

Never met McLean but met courtney a couple of times. To be fair he was a nice enough bloke. I suspect he is much more celebrity than gangster these days.

 

My dad broke hes leg & spent 2 weeks on the same hospital ward as Lenny Mclean, got on really well with him always polite & came over to say hello to me & my mum when we visited.

That would be the difference between the old style gangsters & the type of today who have no morals.

i met dave courtney about 5 years ago.
a mate of mine's younger brother was in a boy band and got to know courtney through the celebrity scene and got on well with him.
the youngest of the 3 brothers had been threatened with death by some loose cannon with a machete who wouldnt let it go.(he hung himself in prison a couple of years ago after murdering his 19 year old ex-girlfriend with a knife in his house).

dave came down with a mate,just to show his face.
we had a great evening-everyone knew him,he loved it. he has an aura about him,trust me. i wouldnt like to be on the wrong side of him! a real nice fella though and an experience meeting him.

I have read the Guvnor Lenny Mclean & its worth reading.

 

I've read the guv'nor as well, quite an entertaining read and McLean seems a decent enough bloke but he is what he is, a product of his enviroment I guess.

I fail to see why you wouldn't give your honest opinion to Courtney?
What's he gonna do? Pull out one of the 500 knuckledusters he owns and hit you with it?
